Acute kidney graft allorejection affects primarily the renal cortex. The present study by Chessa et al. offers an explanation for this phenomenon. The authors employ microarray-based gene expression analysis to provide evidence that the hyperosmolarity of the renal medulla induces a transcriptional fingerprint associated with anti-inflammatory functionality in medullary dendritic cells, which may attenuate local alloreactivity. This novel immunoregulatory mechanism hints at a new opportunity to prevent allorejection.

Rice salt tolerance is highly anticipated to meet global demand in response to decreasing farmland and soil salinization. Therefore, dissecting the genetic loci controlling salt tolerance in rice for improving productivity is of utmost importance. Here, we evaluated six salt-tolerance-related traits of a biparental mapping population comprising 280 F2 rice individuals (Oryza sativa L.

SKP1 constitutes the Skp1-Cullin-F-box ubiquitin E3 ligase (SCF), which plays a role in plant growth and development and biotic and abiotic stress in ubiquitination. However, the response of the gene family to abiotic and biotic stresses in cotton has not been well characterized. In this study, a total of 72 genes with the conserved domain of SKP1 were identified in four Gossypium species.

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) can utilize the residual photons from indoor light and continuously supplement the energy supply for low-power electron devices, thereby showing the great potential for sustainable energy ecosystems. However, the solution-processed perovskites suffer from serious defect stacking within crystal lattices, compromising the low-light efficiency and operational stability. In this study, we designed a multifunctional organometallic salt named sodium sulfanilate (4-ABS), containing both electron-donating amine and sulfonic acid groups to effectively passivate the positively-charged defects, like under-coordinated Pb ions and iodine vacancies.

Soil contamination with cadmium (Cd) and salinity poses a significant challenge, affecting crop health and productivity. This study explores the combined application of sugarcane bagasse (SCB) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) to mitigate the toxic effects of Cd and salinity in wheat plants. Field experiments conducted in Cd-contaminated saline soils revealed that the application of SCB (0, 5, and 10 t ha) and ZnO NPs (0, 12.

Brassinosteroids (BRs) are recognized for their ability to enhance plant salt tolerance. While considerable research has focused on their effects under neutral salt conditions, the mechanisms through which BRs regulate photosynthesis under alkaline salt stress are less well understood. This study investigates these mechanisms, examining plant growth, photosynthetic electron transport, gas exchange parameters, Calvin cycle dynamics, and the expression of key antioxidant and Calvin cycle genes under alkaline stress conditions induced by NaHCO.
