Purpose: In response to COVID-19, dental educators have been tasked with maintaining the quality of education while reducing cost, increasing efficiency, and leveraging technology.
Methods: This collaborative, multisite virtual health policy course used the Staged Self-Directed Learning Model (SSDL) to lead a diverse group of students studying health policy. Objectives: To examine how combinations of state policies, rather than single policies, are related to uptake of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
Methods: Using publicly available records and the literature, we characterized policies for each US state and Washington, DC, in 2015 (n = 51), including (1) Medicaid expansion, (2) policies permitting HPV vaccination in pharmacies, (3) school-entry requirements, (4) classroom sex education mandates, and (5) parental education mandates. Using qualitative comparative analysis, we identified which existing combinations of these policies were necessary and sufficient for high HPV vaccine initiation among adolescents, with National Immunization Survey-Teen data.

Background And Objectives: There is a push to use classroom technology and active teaching methods to replace didactic lectures as the most prevalent format for resident education. This multisite collaborative cohort study involving nine residency programs across the United States compared a standard slide-based didactic lecture, a facilitated group discussion via an engaged classroom, and a high-fidelity, hands-on simulation scenario for teaching the topic of acute dyspnea. The primary outcome was knowledge retention at 2 to 4 weeks.

This multimedia e-book introduces recognized team skills of shared mental models, situational awareness, and the SBAR (situation, background, assessment, and recommendation) communication tool for individual or small-group learning. The e-book was derived from work done to develop an interprofessional small-group interactive learning tool for use in a clinical environment where resources, including meeting space, time, and facilitators, were limited.
