Background: Using dietary interventions to steer the metabolic output of the gut microbiota towards specific health-promoting metabolites is often challenging due to interpersonal variation in treatment responses.

Methods: In this study, we combined the ex vivo SIFR (Systemic Intestinal Fermentation Research) technology with untargeted metabolite profiling to investigate the impact of carrot-derived rhamnogalacturonan-I (cRG-I) on ex vivo metabolite production by the gut microbiota of 24 human adults.

Results: The findings reveal that at a dose equivalent to 1.

Background And Objective: Iliopsoas abscess (IPA) is a rare condition with varied symptomology and etiology. Less than one-third of patients with IPA present in the emergency department (ED) with the traditional triad of fever, back pain, and restricted hip motion (or limp), leading to delays in diagnosis and management. Acute liver failure is also a rare clinical presentation in the ED, being associated with high morbidity and mortality.

State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, College of Environmental Science & Engineering, Shanghai Institute of Pollution Control and Ecological Security, Tongji University, 1239 Siping Road, Shanghai, 200092, China. Electronic address:

The excessive presence of the metal ions Cu and Fe in the environment poses a serious threat to ecosystems and human health, so timely and accurate detection of them has become essential and urgent. In this paper, a novel hydrogel-based fluorescent sensor, named ME-IPA@SA-TbZn, was fabricated facilely through an in-situ cross-linking modification method and was used for the detection of Cu and Fe in water bodies. The ME-IPA@SA-TbZn is essentially a hybrid hydrogel bead that exhibits vibrant fluorescence, employing Tb and Zn functionalized hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) as the fluorescence functional core and sodium alginate (SA) as the hydrogel matrix.

A feasible approach to chromophores removal and color reduction in industrial lignin via deep eutectic solvent/isopropanol treatment.

Int J Biol Macromol

Plant Fiber Material Science Research Center, State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, China.

The dark coloration of industrial lignin significantly limits its potential for applications in high-value products. This work reported a practical strategy for lignin color reduction through the synergistic treatment of acidic deep eutectic solvent and isopropanol (DES-IPA). The results showed that the DES-IPA treatment could effectively remove the p-coumarate units and methoxy groups in lignin.

As a green method, enzyme crosslinking can catalyze chitosan (CS) to improve further the structural, interfacial, and functional properties of Inca peanut albumin (IPA)-polyphenols. However, the structural impact of laccase-catalyzed CS on different IPA-polyphenol conjugates has not been reported. Results revealed that enzymatic cross-linking of IPA-gallic acid (GA) and IPA- (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) with CS resulted in a decrease in α-helices, an increase in β-helices, and a more ordered structure.
