It is now well established that many benign or malignant diseases may by themselves or as result of treatment, impair male fertility. Therefore, preserving the potential of becoming a genetic father represents a major issue. Besides sperm cryopreservation, which is the most reliable method for male fertility preservation, other strategies have more recently emerged, especially in prepubertal boys. Prepubertal germ cell storage from testicular sperm extraction and derivation of male gametes from stem cells may represent a future hope, although raising many ethical issues.

Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common gynecological condition affecting individuals of reproductive age and is linked to the gut microbiome. This study aimed to identify the hotspots and research trends within the domain of the gut microbiome in PCOS through bibliometric analysis.

Methods: Utilizing bibliometric techniques, we examined the literature on the gut microbiome in PCOS from the Web of Science Core Collection spanning the period from 2012 to 2023.

Background: Night shift work during pregnancy has been associated with differential DNA methylation in placental tissue, but no studies have explored this association in cord blood. We aimed to examine associations of maternal night shift work with cord blood DNA methylation.

Methods: A total of 4487 mother-newborn pairs from 7 studies were included.

Proteomics and metabolomics analyses of mechanism underlying bovine sperm cryoinjury.

BMC Genomics

College of Animal Science and Technology, Qingdao Agricultural University, Qingdao, 266109, China.

Background: The cryoinjury of semen during cryopreservation reduces sperm motility, constraining the application of artificial insemination (AI) in bovine reproduction. Some fertility markers, related to sperm motility before and after freezing have been identified. However, little is known about the biological mechanism through which freezing reduces sperm motility.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) aim to enhance quality of life through safe sexual experiences, reproductive autonomy, and protection against gender-based violence. However, existing SRHR research and interventions in low- and middle-income countries like Bangladesh predominantly focus on women, often understating men and neglecting the nuanced contextual issues faced by married couples. This study contributes to filling this gap by examining SRHR dynamics among newlyweds in rural and poor urban areas of Bangladesh, especially focusing on marital satisfaction, fertility preferences, and post-marriage adaptation mechanisms.

Is Drosophila Larval Competition Involved in Incipient Speciation?

J Chem Ecol

Geographical, ethological, temporal and ecological barriers can affect interbreeding between populations deriving from an ancestral population, this progressively leading to speciation. A rare case of incipient speciation currently occurs between Drosophila melanogaster populations sampled in Zimbabwe (Z) and all other populations (M). This phenomenon was initially characterized by Z females refusing to mate with M males.
