Published: January 2016

Neutral nickel(ii) phthalocyanine was found to be an efficient and stable catalyst for photocatalytic H2 evolution from water when coupled with an iridium complex as the photosensitizer and triethanolamine as the sacrificial electron donor. The result shows that the Ni-N sigma bond can enhance the stability of the catalyst.

The unit cell of the title compound, [Ni(CHClN)]·2CHOH, consists of a neutral complex and two methanol mol-ecules. In the complex, the two tridentate 2-(3-(4-chloro-phen-yl)-1-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl)-6-(1-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine ligands coordinate to the central Ni ion through the N atoms of the pyrazole, pyridine and triazole groups, forming a pseudo-octa-hedral coordination sphere. Neighbouring tapered mol-ecules are linked through weak C-H(pz)⋯π(ph) inter-actions into monoperiodic chains, which are further linked through weak C-H⋯N/C inter-actions into diperiodic layers.

Monoanionic and neutral nickel(II) and platinum(II) bis(dithiolene) complexes based on the 5,6-diethyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-dithiin-2,3-dithiolate (de-dddt) chiral ligand have been prepared in racemic and enantiopure forms. Neutral closed-shell species have been generated from monoanionic precursors upon electrocrystallization. The racemic anionic (TBA)[Ni(,-de-dddt)(,-de-dddt)] complex crystallized in the centrosymmetric space group 2/, while the neutral complexes crystallized in the enantiomorphic tetragonal space group 422 or 422.

The hydrothermal reaction of 2-MeIm (2-MeIm: 2-methylimidazole) with nickel sulfate hexahydrate in methanol afforded a mononuclear complex formulated as [Ni(SO)(2-MeIm)(HO)]·CHOH (1). The title compound was described by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, thermal assessment, IR, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The crystal structure of is composed of segregated [Ni(SO)(2-MeIm)(HO)] neutral entities and a solvent methanol molecule.

A new pyrazole based thiosemicarbazone ligand, 5-methyl-3-formylpyrazole-N(4)-isopropylthiosemicarbazone, (HMPNHPr) (compound I), and its cobalt(III) and nickel(II) complexes, [Co(MPNHPr)]Cl (compound II) and [Ni(HMPNHPr)]Br (compound III), respectively, have been synthesized and characterized through various physico-chemical and spectroscopic studies. Both the reported Co(III) and Ni(II) complexes are cationic in nature and behave as 1:1 and 1:2 electrolytes in MeOH, respectively. Electronic spectral features of the complexes have classified them as distorted octahedral ones.

The Schiff base condensation of 5-methyl-4-imidazole carboxaldehyde, 5Me4ImCHO, and the anion of an amino acid, HN-CH(R)CO (R = -CH, -CH(CH) and -CHCH(CH)), gives the aldimine tautomer, Im-CH=N-CH(R)CO, while that of 5-methylimidazole-4-methanamine, 5MeIm-4-CHNH, with a 2-oxocarboxylate anion, R-C(O)-CO, gives the isomeric ketimine tautomer, Im-CH-N=C(R)CO. All are isolated as the neutral nickel(II) complexes, NiL, and are characterized by single crystal structure determination, IR, and positive ion ESI MS. In the cases of the 4 substituted imidazoles, either 5MeIm-4-CHO or 5MeIm-4-CHNH, both the aldimine and ketimine complexes are isolated cleanly with no evidence of an equilibrium between the two tautomers under the experimental conditions.
