Aims: To prospectively assess the use of microwave ablation (MWA) to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), and to evaluate factors that significantly affect treatment outcomes.
Methods: Sixty patients with HCC [55 male, 5 female; mean age, 54.1 ± 10.2 (range 36-77) years] + PVTT were enrolled. Patients were treated with MWA after TACE. Results were compared with those of 54 patients treated by TACE alone in another retrospective study. Data analyzed included patient demographics, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, liver cirrhosis, liver volume, Child-Pugh class, Cancer of the Liver Italian Program (CLIP) score, and imaging findings. Survival time (from occurrence of PVTT to last follow-up) and predictive factors and their correlation with survival were statistically evaluated.
Results: The median 3-year overall survival (OS) duration was 13.5 months, and the 1- and 3-year OS rates were 48 and 23 %, respectively. Cox hazards regression analysis revealed that change in the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, CLIP score, and treatment efficacy were the only independent predictive factors for outcome (p = 0.035, 0.024, and 0.000, respectively).
Conclusions: Combination therapy with MWA after TACE may provide a substantial benefit for patients with HCC + PVTT type I, II, or partial III and Child-Pugh class A or B by reducing the tumor burden.

Objectives: To assess the safety and efficacy of using microwave ablation (MWA) to treat solitary kidney (SK) patients with T1a renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
Methods: Retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained database identified patients with T1a RCC with either congenital or acquired SK. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated from serum creatinine before MWA and after at 6 and 12 months post-procedure.

Background: Solid lung lesions are common in clinical practice, and percutaneous thermal ablation has been shown to be an effective treatment for these lesions. While computed tomography (CT)-guided microwave ablation (MWA) therapy is frequently used for adult solid lesions, it is rarely considered for pediatric cases.
Case Presentation: A case of an 8-year-old child with adrenal neuroblastoma and a left upper lung mass.

Background Interest in microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) use for treating secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is rising; however, ablation outcomes in patients with SHPT are not well characterized. Purpose To assess the response of parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium, phosphorus, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels to US-guided parathyroid MWA and RFA and the safety of these treatments in participants with SHPT. Materials and Methods This prospective multicenter cohort study, conducted from September 2017 to March 2022, included participants with SHPT.

The standard of care for early-stage NSCLC has historically been surgical resection. Given the association of lung cancer with smoking, a large number of early-stage patients also have active smoking-related medical comorbidities such as COPD precluding surgery. The current approach for treating such inoperable patients is frequently considered to be stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).

: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the Surgnova Dophi™ M150E microwave ablation system in a prospective single-center observational study. : A cohort of 50 patients with 77 primary or secondary liver tumors underwent CT-navigated stereotactic percutaneous microwave ablation with curative intention using the Surgnova Dophi™ M150E system. The endpoints were primary technique efficacy (PTE), number of complications, ablation defect dimensions, and sphericity index compared to previously reported findings.
