A study of 578 patients with different kinds of postvagotomy disorders revealed disorders of the incretory and excretory pancreatic function as well as of the absorptive function of the polygonal liver cells. It was established that an increase of the concentration of immunoreactive insulin and C-peptide with simultaneous reduction of immunoreactive trypsin and accumulation of the radioactive agent in the liver may be used as a diagnostic test of incomplete vagotomy.

Purpose: This study aimed to initially test whether machine learning approaches could categorically predict two simple biological features, mouse age and mouse species, using the retinal segmentation metrics.
Methods: The retinal layer thickness data obtained from C57BL/6 and DBA/2J mice were processed for machine learning after segmenting mouse retinal SD-OCT scans. Twenty-two models were trained to predict the mouse groups.

Background: TCP proteins are plant-specific transcription factors that play essential roles in various developmental processes, including leaf morphogenesis and senescence, flowering, lateral branching, hormone crosstalk, and stress responses. However, a comprehensive analysis of genome-wide TCP genes and their expression patterns in melon is yet to be done.
Objective: The present study aims to identify and analyze the TCP genes in the melon genome and understand their putative functions.

During the omicron wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and with SARS-CoV-2 vaccines becoming available, seroprevalence rates rose in children and adolescents. This study investigated the impact of both SARS-CoV-2 infections and vaccinations on the incidence of acute and prolonged symptoms in real-world conditions during the transition from the pandemic to the endemic phase. Participants from a pediatric population based seroprevalence study (CorKID study) were followed up at least two and for almost four years by survey of health status features and symptoms suggestive of post-COVID syndrome (PCS).

Inverse design via topology optimization has led to innovations in integrated photonics and offers a promising way for designing high-efficiency on-chip couplers with a minimal footprint. In this work, we exploit topology optimization to design a compact vertical coupler incorporating a bottom reflector, which achieves sub-decibel coupling efficiency on the 220-nm silicon-on-insulator platform. The final design of the vertical coupler yields a predicted coupling efficiency of -0.

This study aimed to develop a real-time, noninvasive hyperkalemia monitoring system for dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease. Hyperkalemia, common in dialysis patients, can lead to life-threatening arrhythmias or sudden death if untreated. Therefore, real-time monitoring of hyperkalemia in this population is crucial.
