Background: To investigate the effect of postoperative supplementary parenteral nutrition (SPN) containing varying energy intake levels during the early postoperative period on the clinical outcomes of patients diagnosed with gastric cancer.

Methods: Data from 237 patients, who were diagnosed with gastric cancer between January 2016 and June 2022, were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into 2 groups based on mean daily SPN energy intake: low (L-SPN; < 20 kcal/kg/day); and high (H-SPN; ≥ 20 kcal/kg/day).

Background: The subcellular localization of mRNA plays a crucial role in gene expression regulation and various cellular processes. However, existing wet lab techniques like RNA-FISH are usually time-consuming, labor-intensive, and limited to specific tissue types. Researchers have developed several computational methods to predict mRNA subcellular localization to address this.

Cardiac vagal control and inflammation are upregulated in exceptional human longevity.

Intern Emerg Med

December 2024

Department of Clinical Sciences and Community Health, University of Milan, via Francesco Sforza 35, 20122, Milan, Italy.

We investigated the interplay of cardiovascular autonomic and inflammatory profiles in persons with extreme longevity (PEL), their direct offsprings (DO), and a group of controls matched for age and sex with the DO. Cardiac autonomic control was assessed through the heart rate variability (HRV) using spectral and symbolic analysis. The plasma concentration and gene expression of interleukin (IL)-10, IL-6, and TNF-α were quantified.

Daily walking time effects of the opening of a multifunctional facility "ONIKURU" using propensity score matching and GPS tracking techniques.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Living Environment Design, Graduate School of Human Life and Ecology, Osaka Metropolitan University, Osaka, 558-8585, Japan.

Urban design focused on improving walkability has received attention as a method of increasing physical activity among the population. However, only a few studies have examined the effect of walking time of opening multifunctional facilities as an architecture-scale intervention. This study aimed to clarify the effect of opening a multifunctional facility on residents' daily walking time.

Background: Predicted heart mass ratio (PHMr) has become the standard donor-recipient size matching method in heart transplantation. While utilization of small PHMr hearts is associated with increased one-year mortality, the underlying mechanisms and time horizon of mortality remain uncertain.

Methods: A single institution analysis of isolated heart transplant recipients (01/2019-7/2022) was performed (N=334).
