The direct simulation of the solid-liquid water interface with the effective fragment potential (EFP) via the constant enthalpy and pressure (NPH) ensemble was used to estimate the melting temperature (T(m)) of ice-I(h). Initial configurations and velocities, taken from equilibrated constant pressure and temperature (NPT) simulations at P = 1 atm and T = 305 K, 325 K and 399 K, respectively, yielded corresponding T(m) values of 378 ± 16 K, 382 ± 14 K and 384 ± 15 K. These estimates are consistently higher than experiment, albeit to the same degree as previously reported estimates using density functional theory (DFT)-based Born-Oppenheimer simulations with the Becke-Lee-Yang-Parr functional plus dispersion corrections (BLYP-D).

Developing high-performance alloys is essential for applications in advanced electromagnetic energy conversion devices. In this study, we assess Fe-Co-Ni alloy compositions identified in our previous work through a machine learning (ML) framework, which used both multi-property ML models and multi-objective Bayesian optimization to design compositions with predicted high values of saturation magnetization, Curie temperature, and Vickers hardness. Experimental validation was conducted on two promising compositions synthesized using three different methods: arc melting, ball milling followed by spark plasma sintering (SPS), and chemical synthesis followed by SPS.

The present study focuses on the ground state mechanical, acoustic, thermodynamic and electronic transport properties of NaSbS polymorphs using the density functional theory (DFT) and semi-classical Boltzmann transport theory. The mechanical stability of the polymorphs is affirmed by the calculated elastic tensor. The calculated elastic properties asserted that all the polymorphs exhibit soft, brittle, anisotropic nature containing dominant covalent bonding.

The thermal behavior of -octanol and related ether alcohols has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The melting point, heat of fusion, and isobaric heat capacities of -octanol obtained from the DSC measurements are in good agreement with literature values. The ether alcohols display kinetic barriers for forming a solid phase during cooldown.

In recent years, the development of biodegradable, cell-adhesive polymeric implants and minimally invasive surgery has significantly advanced healthcare. These materials exhibit multifunctional properties like self-healing, shape-memory, and cell adhesion, which can be achieved through novel chemical approaches. Engineering of such materials and their scalability using a classical polymer network without complex chemical synthesis and modification has been a great challenge, which potentially can be resolved using biobased dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC).

Poly(lactic) (PLA) is a biodegradable material obtained from renewable resources and is recognized as a safe biopolymer by the Food and Drug Administration. PLA expresses excellent mechanical and moldability attributes nonetheless poor elasticity/functionality limits its widespread utilization. One approach to compensate for this is chemical surface modification through free radical grafting with small organic molecules like maleic anhydride (MA).
