Graphene-wrapped Ni(OH)2 hollow spheres were prepared via electrostatic interaction between poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) modified Ni(OH)2 and graphene oxide (GO) in an aqueous dispersion, followed by the reduction of GO. Morphological and structural analysis by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis confirmed the successful coating of graphene on Ni(OH)2 hollow spheres with a content of 3.8 wt%. And then its application as electrode material for supercapacitor has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge-discharge tests. Results show that the sample displays a high capacitance of 1368 F g(-1) at a current density of 1 A g(-1), much better than that of pure Ni(OH)2, illustrating that such composite is a promising candidate as electrode material for supercapacitors.

Hydrangea-like nickel/nickel-based compounds decorated hollow carbon shells were synthesized through low-temperature calcination and a facile electrochemical oxidation process. This three-dimensional hollow hierarchical structure ensures intimate contact between the electrically conductive nickel (Ni) substrate and uniformly distributed electrochemically active nickel-based compounds. This hierarchical structure offers abundant active sites and accessible pathways, maximizing energy storage, particularly during rapid charge-discharge cycles.

The controlled synthesis of hollow structure transition metal compounds has long been a very interesting and significant research topic in the energy storage and conversion fields. Herein, an ultrasound-assisted chemical etching strategy is proposed for fabricating concave Ni(OH) nanocubes. The morphology and composition evolution of the concave Ni(OH) nanocubes suggest a possible formation mechanism.

Transition metal oxides / hydroxides, which have the advantages of wide distribution, low price, low toxicity, and stable chemical properties, have attracted much attention from researchers. Therefore, this work reports the construction of the unique CoMnO nanocages assisted by the Kirkendall effect, and worm-like Ni(OH) nanoparticles were grown on the surface via hydrothermal method, the final product CoMnO@Ni(OH) nanocages were applied to construct efficient and sensitive non-enzymatic glucose electrochemical sensing. The stable three-dimensional hollow CoMnO nanocages structure, not only can provide a wider specific surface area and more abundant active sites, its porous structure also can effectively inhibit the aggregation of nanoparticles, increase the ion diffusion path, shorten the electron transport distance, and improve the electrical conductivity.

Photocatalytic H evolution is of prime importance in the energy crisis and in lessening environmental pollution. Adopting a single semiconductor as a photocatalyst remains a formidable challenge. However, the construction of an S-scheme heterojunction is a promising method for efficient water splitting.

CuSe nanosheets were coated on the surface of Ni(OH) nanocages (NCs) by ion exchange driven by selenium incorporation. The resulting Ni(OH)@CuSe hollow heterostructures (Ni(OH)@CuSe HHSs) showed high electrical conductivity and electrocatalytic activities derived from the synergistic effects of Ni/Cu phases. These structures enhanced glucose adsorption abilities, confirmed by density function theory (DFT) calculations, and the robustness of the integrated nano-electrocatalyst.
