The congenital granular cell lesion most commonly occurs on the maxillary or mandibular alveolus of neonates. Extra-alveolar congenital granular cell lesion is exceptionally rare, with only 10 cases reported. Two additional cases occurring on the tongue are presented with a description of the clinical, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical features. The differential diagnosis is discussed, and the literature reviewed.

This study describes the congenital goiter in an alpaca (Vicugna pacos) fetus aborted in November 2021 with the clinical and pathological findings in the dam that was found dead on the farm three weeks after a miscarriage. The dam was a black coat alpaca bred in the Netherlands, imported in Italy in January 2021, and housed in a farm of central Italy for breeding purposes. Signalment and clinical data on dam and fetus were collected from the farmer and referring veterinarian.

Sporadic late-onset nemaline rod myopathy is a rare, acquired, sub-acute, adult-onset myopathy characterized by proximal muscle weakness and nemaline rods in the myofibers. In contrast to its congenital form, the prevalence in adult population is comparatively rare. Herein, we report a case of 60-year-old male who presented with insidious onset proximal muscle weakness with myopathic pattern on electromyography.

Summary Answer: Maternal periconceptional glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels over 5.6% were associated with an increased risk of congenital heart defects (CHD) in the offspring, and maternal preconception diabetes was associated with an increased risk of CHD, including when HbA1c levels were within euglycemic ranges.
What Is Known Already: Maternal preconception diabetes has been linked with MCMs in the offspring.
