The European Chemical Biology Society (ECBS) and the International Chemical Biology Society (ICBS) recently organized a joint meeting in Berlin. This meeting had more than 250 participants. Four keynote lectures were given by Timothy Mitchison, David Tirrell, Carolyn Bertozzi and Jason Chin; in addition there were 13 invited speakers, 20 selected oral talks and 30 talks selected from 90 posters. The meeting was divided into six topics: chemoproteomics, epigenetics, conjugates for target delivering, anti-infectives, molecular imaging and probing the structure, and function of post-translational modifications. The highlights of the meeting are presented in this report.

In this study, a titanium alloy torsional spring used in aviation was taken as the research subject. Aiming at the fatigue life prediction problem of this spring, the life analysis of the titanium alloy torsional spring was performed using a customized UMAT subroutine based on the theory of continuous damage mechanics. Several sets of life prediction models and tests were compared.

The development of high-performance sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) is crucial to meeting the growing demand for low-cost, sustainable energy storage alternatives to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, achieving stable cycling performance in SIBs is challenging, particularly with tin (Sn) foil anodes, which suffer from issues like sodium trapping and structural degradation due to significant volume changes during sodiation and desodiation. In this study, we investigate the electrochemo-mechanical behavior of Sn foil anodes, focusing on the mechanisms of sodium trapping and structural evolution that impair battery performance.

Background: Rifampin therapy is indicated for the treatment of staphylococcal periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in patients who have undergone debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) or one-stage revision as per the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) guideline. Given the well-established effectiveness of rifampin as adjunctive therapy in staphylococcal PJI, it is crucial to evaluate its utilization in practice and identify factors that contribute to its underuse or incomplete administration, as these deviations may undermine treatment efficacy and patient outcomes.
Questions/purposes: Among patients who met clear indications for rifampin use having undergone DAIR or one-stage revision for staphylococcal PJI, (1) what proportion of patients did not receive it? (2) What proportion of patients started it but did not complete the planned course? (3) Where documented in the medical record, what were the common reasons for not using it or prematurely discontinuing it, and in what percentage of the patients' charts was no reason given? (4) What proportion of patients were taking a medication that put them at risk for a drug-drug interaction (DDI)?
Methods: Using an institutional database, patients who underwent DAIR or revision arthroplasty for PJI from January 2013 to April 2023 were identified (n = 935).

Objective: Emicizumab promotes efficacious hemostasis in persons with hemophilia A persons with hemophilia A with and without inhibitors. Primary analyses of real-world data and clinical trials have shown emicizumab efficacy and safety; however, long-term data are limited.
Methods: This retrospective study was conducted to assess real-world long-term outcomes of pediatric patients on emicizumab in our hemophilia center between the period of February 2018 and September 2023.

This study designs and develops a wearable exoskeleton piano assistance system for individuals recovering from neurological injuries, aiming to help users regain the ability to perform complex tasks such as playing the piano. While soft robotic exoskeletons have proven effective in rehabilitation therapy and daily activity assistance, challenges remain in performing highly dexterous tasks due to structural complexity and insufficient motion accuracy. To address these issues, we developed a modular division method based on multi-domain mapping and a top-down process model.
