Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a type of head-to-tail closed RNA molecules, have been implicated in various aspects of plant development and stress responses through transcriptome sequencing; however, the precise functional roles of circRNAs in plants remain poorly understood. In this study, we identified a highly expressed circular RNA, circZmMED16, derived from exon 8 of the mediator complex subunit 16 (ZmMED16) across different maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines using circRNA-seq analysis.

Background: X-linked intellectual disability (XLID) is a genetically heterogeneous disorder that results in cognitive impairment and developmental delays. Mutations in the KDM5C gene have been identified as a causative factor in XLID. This study aimed to identify novel variants associated with XLID and to investigate the clinical and genetic characteristics of XLID patients with mutations in the KDM5C gene.

Dias-Logan syndrome, also known as intellectual developmental disorder with persistence of fetal hemoglobin (HbF), or -related intellectual developmental disorder, is an extremely rare neurogenetic disorder characterized by intellectual disability (ID), delayed psychomotor development, variable dysmorphic features, and asymptomatic persistence of fetal hemoglobin. The prevalence and incidence of this condition are currently unknown. We report an 8-year-old Han Chinese male patient with Dias-Logan syndrome who carries a heterozygous pathogenic variant, c.

Phosphorylation of substrates by cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) is the driving force of cell cycle progression. Several CDK-activating cyclins are involved, yet how they contribute to substrate specificity is still poorly understood. Here, we discover that a positively charged pocket in cyclin B1, which is exclusively conserved within B-type cyclins and binds phosphorylated serine- or threonine-residues, is essential for correct execution of mitosis.

Rationale: Microcephaly, epilepsy, and developmental delay (MCSZ) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder associated with autosomal recessive inheritance of mutations in the polynucleotide kinase 3'-phosphatase (PNKP) gene. Prompt identification and management are essential, as delayed diagnosis or intervention may result in severe complications or mortality. In this case, prenatal screening in the second trimester detected fetal microcephaly with a gradual decline in head circumference, prompting the decision to terminate the pregnancy.
