Background: Acne is an inflammatory skin disease afflicting the majority of the world's population at some point in their lifetime, and is seen to be chronic in about 50% of cases. Acne leads to significant social withdrawal, depression, and disfiguring scars in many cases. Available treatments are characterized by high rates of relapse, dangerous side effects, and social stigma, which often leads to poor patient compliance and treatment failure.

Article Synopsis
  • Acne fulminans (AF) is a rare and severe skin disorder that causes painful nodules and ulcers, primarily affecting adolescent males with a history of acne.
  • * The condition is often associated with isotretinoin therapy and high testosterone levels, but its exact cause is unknown. Standard treatments include corticosteroids and isotretinoin.
  • * In a reported case, a 17-year-old male with AF did not respond to these treatments but improved significantly when treated with ustekinumab, allowing for a reduction in corticosteroids and an increase in isotretinoin dosage.*

Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare papulosquamous reaction pattern with a significant impact on quality of life. Type I PRP is the most common PRP variant, presenting as erythematous papules emerging in a follicular distribution and later coalescing into plaques with characteristic islands of sparing; histologically, an alternating pattern of orthokeratosis and parakeratosis is considered the hallmark of PRP (checkerboard hyperkeratosis). Other PRP variants (types II-V) differ in their age of onset and clinical presentation.

The efficacy of I-MIBG therapy is under exploration in newly diagnosed HR-NBL patients. Here, we compared the outcomes of tandem HDC/ASCT between the I-MIBG combination and non-MIBG groups.

Methods: The study group comprised a sum of 100 cases, involving 50 individuals with acne vulgaris-required high-dose retinol therapy and 50 controls who did not start any medication.
