We propose a method of spatial modulation of inhomogeneous broadening of a quantum-well excitonic resonance based on local generation of defects produced by a focused ion beam. The method is applied to fabrication of excitonic diffraction grating in a single quantum-well InGaAs/GaAs structure by irradiating the sample with a beam of 35-keV He ions of exposure doses <10 cm. The spectrum of resonant diffraction on such a structure is narrower than that of reflectivity and decreases much faster with increasing temperature. A proposed model of formation of the diffractive response based on the single scattering approximation well describes the results of the spectral and temperature measurements.

We demonstrate high-resolution single-pixel imaging (SPI) in the visible and near-infrared wavelength ranges using an SPI framework that incorporates a novel, dedicated sampling scheme and a reconstruction algorithm optimized for the rapid imaging of highly sparse scenes at the native digital micromirror device (DMD) resolution of 1024 × 768. The reconstruction algorithm consists of two stages. In the first stage, the vector of SPI measurements is multiplied by the generalized inverse of the measurement matrix.

As the demand for high-speed, low-latency communication continues to grow, free-space optical (FSO) communication has gained prominence as a promising solution for supporting the next generation of wireless networks, especially in the context of the 5G and beyond era. It offers high-speed, low-latency data transmission over long distances without the need for a physical infrastructure. However, the deployment of FSO systems faces significant challenges, such as atmospheric turbulence, weather-induced signal degradation, and alignment issues, all of which can impair performance.

This paper explores the implementation of a VCO-based ADC, achieving an ENOB of 12 bits with 1 MHz of a sampling rate in the audio bandwidth. The solution exploits the scalability and PVT invariance of a novel digital-to-frequency converter to reduce the size and consumed power. The architecture has been validated in a 130 nm CMOS technology node displaying a power consumption of 105.

Mucosal immunity plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory immune diseases. This study leverages single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and spatial proteomics to compare the cellular mechanisms involved in periodontitis between humans and mice, aiming to develop precise strategies to protect the gingival mucosal barrier. We identified key conserved and divergent features in cellular landscapes and transcriptional profiles across the two species, underscoring the complexity of inflammatory responses and immune dynamics in periodontitis.

Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist with sedative and anxiolytic properties. Increasing evidence reports that DEX has a neuroprotective effect. In this study, we investigated the potential effects of DEX on learning and memory functions in rats with experimental cognitive impairment.
