Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most common type of fibrosis in lungs, characterized as a chronic and progressive interstitial lung disease involving pathological findings of fibrosis with a median survival of 3 years. Despite the knowledge accumulated regarding IPF from basic and clinical research, an effective medical therapy for the condition remains to be established. Thus, it is necessary for further research, including stem cell therapy, which will provide new insights into and expectations for IPF treatment.

Intravascular hemolysis releases hemoglobin (Hb) from red blood cells under specific conditions, yet the effect of hemolysis in aquaculture systems remain poorly understood. In this study, a continuous hemolysis model for grass carp was established by injection of phenylhydrazine (PHZ) to investigate the mechanistic impacts of sustained hemolysis. PHZ-induced hemolysis altered liver color, and subsequent hematoxylin and eosin staining revealed substantial Hb accumulation in the head kidney, accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration and vacuolization in liver tissue.

Background: Familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) is a rare genetic disorder with heterogeneous presentation, where acute encephalopathy is rarely described in literature. Therefore, initial neurologic symptoms could make the diagnosis and treatment challenging.
Case Presentation: A four-month-old male infant presented with acute encephalopathy, vomiting, bulging fontanel, decreased appetite and failure to thrive.

Coagulopathy is a critical pathophysiological mechanism of acute pancreatitis (AP), arising from the complex interplay between innate immune, endothelial cells and platelets. Although initially beneficial for the host, uncontrolled and systemic activation of coagulation cascade in AP can lead to thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications, ranging from subclinical abnormalities in coagulation tests to severe clinical manifestations, such as disseminated intravascular coagulation. Initiation of coagulation activation and consequent thrombin generation is caused by expression of tissue factor on activated monocytes and is ineffectually offset by tissue factor pathway inhibitor.
