Lung cancer screening implementation has led to expanded imaging of the chest in older, tobacco-exposed populations. Growing numbers of screening cases are also found to have CT-detectable emphysema or elevated levels of coronary calcium, indicating the presence of coronary artery disease. Early interventions based on these additional findings, especially with coronary calcium, are emerging and follow established protocols.

Aims: Effective therapeutic drugs for calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) are lacking, although its incidence has been increasing over the past decade, and is predicted to continue rising in the future. This study aimed to explore the role and potential mechanisms of liver X receptor α (LXRα) in CAVD, which offers a promising approach for treating CAVD.

Methods And Results: Osteogenic stimulation was performed following which a substantial downregulation of LXRα was observed in human calcific aortic valves and in valvular interstitial cells.

Vascular calcification is an important risk factor related to all-cause mortality of cardiovascular events in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Vascular extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins have been demonstrated to regulate vascular calcification. ECM protein thrombospondin 1 (THBS1/TSP-1) plays a critical role in the regulation of vascular diseases.

Background: We present a technique for mitral valve (MV) replacement that preserves the anterior mitral leaflet (AML) using complete chordal-sparing mitral valve replacement (CCS-MVR), which maintains the architecture of the left ventricle. This technique is beneficial for patients with functional, degenerative, and infective MV disease who were unable to undergo MV repair. The objective of this study is to ascertain the most efficacious treatment for MV disease.

Background: Elevated triglycerides are an important risk factor for atherosclerosis. However, the magnitude of triglyceride lowering with currently available therapies is modest and the impact of triglyceride-lowering on atherosclerosis remains undefined. Olezarsen is an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) targeting mRNA for apolipoprotein C-III (apoC-III), an inhibitor of triglyceride clearance.
