This paper presents a new initiative in the South-Eastern Health Region of Norway to establish a regional resource center focusing on services for children and adolescents aged 2-18 years with prenatal exposure to alcohol or other drugs. In Norway, the prevalence of fetal alcohol spectrum (FAS) is not known but has been estimated to be between 1 and 2 children per 1000 births, while the prevalence of prenatal exposure to illicit drugs is unknown. The resource center is the first of its kind in Scandinavia and will have three main objectives: (1) provide hospital staff, community health and child welfare personnel, and special educators with information, educational courses, and seminars focused on the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of children with a history of prenatal alcohol/drug exposure; (2) provide specialized health services, such as diagnostic services and intervention planning, for children referred from hospitals in the South-Eastern Health Region of Norway; and (3) initiate multicenter studies focusing on the diagnostic process and evaluation of interventions.

Background: Research has shown that engaging in a range of healthy lifestyles or behavioral factors can help reduce the risk of developing dementia. Improved knowledge of modifiable risk factors for dementia may help engage people to reduce their risk, with beneficial impacts on individual and public health. Moreover, many guidelines emphasize the importance of providing education and web-based resources for dementia prevention.

Background: Immersive virtual reality (iVR) has emerged as a training method to prepare medical first responders (MFRs) for mass casualty incidents (MCIs) and disasters in a resource-efficient, flexible, and safe manner. However, systematic evaluations and validations of potential performance indicators for virtual MCI training are still lacking.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether different performance indicators based on visual attention, triage performance, and information transmission can be effectively extended to MCI training in iVR by testing if they can discriminate between different levels of expertise.

Heteroleptic An (An = U, Np) chlorido-ketoenaminate complexes of the type [AnCl(TFB-BuA)(THF)] ( type: , ; TFB-BuA = 4-(-butylamino)-1,1,1-trifluorobut-3-en-2-one) and the homoleptic Np heteroarylalkenolate complexes [Np(PyTFP)] (, PyTFP = 1-(pyridin-2-yl)-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-en-2-ol) and [Np(DMOTFP)] (, DMOTFP = 1-(4,5-dimethyloxazol-2-yl)-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-en-2-ol) were synthesized and characterized (SC-XRD, NMR, Vis-NIR, MS). While their solid-state structures compare well to those of their uranium analogues, the behavior in solution showed significant differences. The binding motif of the DMOTFP ligand in complex can change to form two different complex isomers, as seen by paramagnetic chemical shifts in NMR experiments.

Nanoization of Technical Pesticides: Facile and Smart Pesticide Nanocapsules Directly Encapsulated through "On Site" Metal-Polyphenol Coordination Assembly for Improved Efficacy and Biosafety.

J Agric Food Chem

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry, Key Laboratory of Mesoscopic Chemistry (Ministry of Education), School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210023, China.

Facile pesticide nanocapsules were successfully prepared by directly encapsulating the antisolvent precipitation of pesticides through instantaneous "on site" coordination assembly of tannic acid and Fe, avoiding tedious preparation, time consumption, and large amounts of organic solvents. The pesticide nanocapsules showed excellent resistance to ultraviolet photolysis and rainwater washing owing to the nanocapsule walls. The smart pesticide nanocapsules exhibited the controlled release of pesticides under multidimensional stimuli, such as acidic/alkaline pH, glutathione, HO, phytic acid, laccase, tannase, and sunlight, which were related to the physiological and natural environments of crops, pests, and pathogens.

How can we make sound replication decisions?

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim 7030, Norway.

Replication and the reported crises impacting many fields of research have become a focal point for the sciences. This has led to reforms in publishing, methodological design and reporting, and increased numbers of experimental replications coordinated across many laboratories. While replication is rightly considered an indispensable tool of science, financial resources and researchers' time are quite limited.
