Nocardia cerradoensis was first isolated in 2003 in the El Cerrado region of Brazil; since then, only 2 human infections, in France and Spain, have been reported. We describe 3 autochthonous cases in residents of Spain during 2011 and 2014. Together these cases support the idea of an emerging global pathogenic microorganism.

Nocardia infection (nocardiosis) is usually acquired by inhalation; so pulmonary nocardiosis is the most common clinical presentation. Extrapulmonary localization occurs through hematogenous dissemination or contiguous spread. Nocardia can involve the central nervous system in a very reduced number of patients, mainly in immunocompromised.

Objective: Nocardiosis is an opportunistic infection in individuals who had organ transplants and in patients with immunosuppressive diseases such as pemphigus Vulgaris (PV), diabetes mellitus, and HIV. Nocardiosis rate has not been assessed in Iranian PV patients, and this was the first study to estimate nocardiosis rate in these patients.
Methods: In this study, 103 patients with PV were examined.

This paper reports the first draft genome sequence for a strain of obtained from an immunocompetent patient with a knee infection. The 8.2-Mb genome has 8,329 coding sequences, including intrinsic resistance genes, biosynthetic gene clusters for polyketide synthase and nonribosomal peptide synthase, virulence genes, and prophages.
