Introduction This study intended to examine the effect of an eHealth self-management (eHSM) intervention on elderly Korean persons who live alone in a community. Methods A quasi-experimental study was designed, and a total of 64 elderly persons (intervention n = 31, control n = 33) with hypertension (a systolic blood pressure measurement of ≥140 and/or a diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mm Hg) or taking anti-hypertensive medication participated. The eHSM intervention consisted of a four-week, in-class educational phase, community-based eHealth monitoring, and monthly telephone counselling for 24 weeks. Results The primary outcome measurement of the study was BP, and secondary outcomes included psycho-behavioural variables. Specifically, the systolic BP among intervention group participants was 133.9 mm Hg at baseline and 122.5 mm Hg after 24 weeks of follow-up. Participants in the intervention group showed greater improvement in self-efficacy, self-care behaviour, and social support than did participants in the control group 24 weeks post-intervention. Discussion The results highlight the clinical efficacy of an eHSM intervention composed of a four-week education program, self-monitoring, and follow-up counselling. The eHSM intervention should be expanded to include community-dwelling elderly persons with hypertension to improve the self-management of hypertension and control of blood pressure.

An innovative fluorescence biosensor was successfully developed to detect organophosphorus pesticide (OPs) by utilizing smartphone technology. The assay relied on the enzymatic activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), which facilitated the conversion of L-ascorbic acid 2-phosphate sesquimagnesium salt hydrate (AAP) into L-ascorbic acid (AA). The AA that generated was then reactedwith o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to yield a fluorescent marker identified as 3-(1,2-dihydroxyethyl)furo[3,4-b]quinoxalin-1(3H)-one (DFQ).

17α-methyltestosterone (MT) hormone is a synthetic androgenic steroid hormone utilized to induce Nile tilapia transitioning for enhanced production yield. This study specifically focuses on the removal of MT through the utilization of photocatalytic membrane reactor (PMR), which employs an in-house polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) ultrafiltration membrane modified with 1% nanomaterials (either TiO or α-FeO). The molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of the in-house membrane falls within the ultrafiltration range.

The measurement of fluorescence emission for quantitative analysis is typically based on a traditional spectrofluorometer, which limits an onsite detection approach. Thus, an alternative device should be developed for fulfilling this analysis outside of the laboratory. Therefore, a low-cost, portable, and low-energy consumption fluorescence reader-based smartphone device was developed.

The optimal conditions for the green synthesis of nano zero-valent iron (G-NZVI) using mango peel extract were investigated using a Box-Behnken design approach. Three factors were considered, namely the ratio of iron solution to mango peel extract ratio (1:1-1:3), feeding rate of mango peel extract (1-5 mL min), and agitation speed (300-350 rpm). The results showed that the optimal conditions for the synthesis of G-NZVI for arsenate removal were a 1:1 ratio of iron solution to mango peel extract, a mango peel extract feeding rate of 5 mL min, and an agitation speed of 300 rpm.

We investigate two different dehydration methods to determine their suitability for preparing resoles for foam synthesis. A simplified process for synthesizing lignin foam (LF) from lignin resole (LR) dehydrated in a hot air oven (HAO) is compared with that dehydrated using a vacuum rotary evaporator (VRE). First, the LR formulation is prepared by mixing phenol with untreated lignin (0%-15% by weight), and subsequently, the prepared LRs are dehydrated using an HAO and a VRE.
