Objective: to analyze the relationship between anthropometric indices of adiposity and some blood markers of risk for development of metabolic disease in healthy women with different body weight.
Method: participated 23 women of 21.0 ± 2.9 years old. Their body mass index (BMI), waist hip ratio (WHR) and proportional sum of six skinfolds (SP6P) were obtained by anthropometry. Blood glucose and triglycerides were determined by colorimetric enzymatic technique and insulin by enzymatic immune assay. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression (backward) were performed.
Results: BMI alone proved to be a predictive factor for blood glucose (p=0.000) and triglycerides concentrations (p = 0.000), while ICC could be a better predictor of insulin (p=0.000).
Conclusions: excess of body weight seems to explain the increased concentrations of glucose and triglycerides while the raised central adiposity may influence insulin levels.
