Background: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) was one of the most common causes of death in the European Union in 2017. Severity and mortality of CAP increase with age and an aging European population will require increased planning for prevention, control, and management of CAP. The purpose of this study was to provide an updated population-based estimate of the incidence of CAP requiring hospitalization in Northern Europe.

We have previously shown that the transplantation of stem cell-derived retinal organoid (RO) sheets into animal models of end-stage retinal degeneration can lead to host-graft synaptic connectivity and restoration of vision, which was further improved using genome-edited Islet1 ROs (gROs) with a reduced number of ON-bipolar cells. However, the details of visual function restoration using this regenerative therapeutic approach have not yet been characterized. Here, we evaluated the electrophysiological properties of end-stage rd1 retinas after transplantation (TP-rd1) and compared them with those of wild-type (WT) retinas using multi-electrode arrays.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a multifactorial disease closely related to neurodevelopment and environmental factors that influence behavior. This study explored the relationships between brain volume and behavior from an Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) based on the Research Domain Criteria. High-resolution magnetic resonance imaging scans were acquired from recent patients with AUD (n = 50) and healthy controls (HC=50).

Background: It has been reported that the emergence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has changed the epidemiological characteristics of many pathogens, but the epidemiological characteristics of (MP) infection in hospitalized children with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) are not clear. The aim of this study was to answer this question.
Methods: Children with CAP in three tertiary hospitals (hospitals A, B and C) from 2018 to 2023 were selected.

A key question for the scientific study of consciousness is whether it is possible to identify specific features in brain activity that are uniquely linked to conscious experience. This question has important implications for the development of markers to detect covert consciousness in unresponsive patients. In this regard, many studies have focused on investigating the neural response to complex auditory regularities.
