We have designed a new set of D-π-A type organic dye sensitizers with different acceptor and anchoring groups, and systematically investigated their optoelectronic properties for efficient dye sensitized solar cell applications. Particularly, we have focused on the effects of anchoring groups on the dye aggregation phenomenon. TDDFT results indicate that the dyes with CSSH anchoring groups exhibit improved optoelectronic properties compared to other dyes. Further, molecular dynamics simulations have been performed to describe the formation of dye aggregation due to intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The observed results indicate that dyes with CSSH anchoring groups are less prone to aggregate because of their very weak intermolecular interactions.

The rapid changes in the global environment have led to an unprecedented decline in biodiversity, with over 28% of species facing extinction. This includes snakes, which are key to ecological balance. Detecting snakes is challenging due to their camouflage and elusive nature, causing data loss and feature extraction difficulties in ecological monitoring.

Multifunctional polymers are interesting substances for the formulation of drug molecules that cannot be administered in their pure form due to their pharmacokinetic profiles or side effects. Polymer-drug formulations can enhance pharmacological properties or create tissue specificity by encapsulating the drug into nanocontainers, or stabilizing nanoparticles for drug transport. We present the synthesis of multifunctional poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline--2-glyco-2-oxazoline)s containing two reactive end groups, and an additional hydrophobic anchor at one end of the molecule.

Iptacopan, a first-in-class, oral, selective complement factor B inhibitor, demonstrated efficacy and safety as monotherapy in C5 inhibitor (C5i)-experienced (APPLY-PNH [NCT04558918]) and C5i-naive (APPOINT-PNH [NCT04820530]) patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). In APPLY-PNH and APPOINT-PNH, changes in fatigue (FACIT-Fatigue) and health-related quality of life (HRQOL; EORTC QLQ-C30) from baseline to Day 168 were evaluated. The proportion of patients achieving meaningful within-patient change (MWPC) on the FACIT-Fatigue and 4 EORTC QLQ-C30 subscales (physical functioning, role functioning, fatigue, dyspnea) was evaluated using anchor-based thresholds.

The Psychometric Properties of the EuroQol 5D Five Level in Survivors of Critical Illness.

Crit Care Med

January 2025

Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Research Centre (ANZIC-RC), School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

Objectives: The EuroQol 5D five level (EQ-5D-5L) instrument is a standardized measure of health-related quality of life and is routinely used in survivors of critical illness. However, information on its psychometric properties and minimal clinically important difference (MCID) in this patient group is lacking.

Design: Secondary analysis of data from the previously published PREDICT (a registry in critically ill patients to determine predictors of disability-free survival) study, a prospective, multicenter cohort study.

Tripodal Triptycenes as a Versatile Building Block for Highly Ordered Molecular Films and Self-Assembled Monolayers.

Laboratory for Chemistry and Life Science (CLS), Institute of Integrated Research, Institute of Science Tokyo, 4259 Nagatsuta, Midori-ku, Yokohama 226-8501, Japan.

ConspectusThe design of properties and functions of molecular assemblies requires not only a proper choice of building blocks but also control over their packing arrangements. A highly versatile unit in this context is a particular type of triptycene with substituents at the 1,8,13-positions, called tripodal triptycene, which offers predictable molecular packing and multiple functionalization sites, both at the opposite 4,5,16- or 10 (bridgehead)-positions. These triptycene building blocks are capable of two-dimensional (2D) nested hexagonal packing, leading to the formation of 2D sheets, which undergo one-dimensional (1D) stacking into well-defined "2D+1D" structures.
