Short stature with congenital ichthyosis.

BMJ Case Rep

Published: December 2015

PIBIDS syndrome (photosensitivity, ichthyosis, brittle hair, intellectual impairment, decreased fertility and short stature) is a variant of trichothiodystrophy. It is a rare form of autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis. Short stature is a vital component of PIBIDS syndrome. We present the cases of two siblings in whom we diagnosed PIBIDS syndrome. On evaluation for short stature, they were found to have severe vitamin D deficiency, which on correction led to the patients having considerable gain in stature. With this case, we would also like to propose that vitamin D deficiency could be one of the treatable causes of short stature in PIBIDS syndrome.

Efficacy of cartilage-targeted IGF-1 in a mouse model of growth hormone insensitivity.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

January 2025

Section on Growth and Development, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institute of Health, Bethesda, MD, United States.

Recombinant human IGF-1 is used to treat severe primary IGF-1 deficiency, but this treatment requires twice-daily injection, often does not fully correct the growth deficit, and has important off-target effects. We therefore sought to target IGF-1 to growth plate cartilage by generating fusion proteins combining IGF-1 with single-chain human antibody fragments that target matrilin-3, a cartilage matrix protein. We previously showed that this cartilage-targeting IGF-1 fusion protein (CV1574-1) promoted growth plate function in a GH-deficient (lit) mouse model.

Objective: Heterozygous COL2A1 gene mutations are associated with type 2 collagenopathies, characterized by a wide, diverse, and overlapping clinical spectrum in related diseases. Our goal is to describe the clinical, radiological, and molecular findings of patients with COL2A1-related dysplasia and investigate the phenotype-genotype correlation. We also aim to emphasize the challenge of categorizing COL2A1-related diseases with similar clinical and radiological phenotypes.

Objective: To describe the characteristics of short arm deformity in patients with achondroplasia, and summarize the progress of its lenthening and reconstruction, so as to provide reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Methods: The literature on the lenthening of upper limb with achondroplastic short arm deformity at home and abroad in recent years was reviewed, and the characteristics, extension methods, postoperative management, effectiveness evaluation, and related complications of short arm deformity were summarized.

Results: Achondroplastic short arm deformity affect the patient's daily perineal hygiene activities.

Purpose: Children with achondroplasia (ACH) are at risk for sudden death in infancy due to sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and foramen magnum stenosis (FMS). Sleep studies and neuroimaging are performed in infants with ACH, but interpretation of infant studies is challenging. We sought to describe baseline data on polysomnography (PSG) indices in infants with achondroplasia as well as effects of age and surgery on these parameters.

HETEROKARYOTIC MONOZYGOTIC TURNER TWINS: AN INTERESTING PRESENTATION.

Acta Endocrinol (Buchar)

January 2025

Bursa Uludag University, School of Medicine, 1Department of Pediatric Endocrinology.

Turner syndrome is the most common sex chromosomal abnormality in about 1:2000-2500 live female births. While short stature and delayed puberty are the most common presentations of patients, atypical findings can also be seen. In this article, we present the Turner twins, who were diagnosed during inguinal hernia surgery when bilateral uterus and ovaries were found within the hernia sac.
