Background: To investigate whether an apoptotic process demonstrated by (99m)Tc-annexin-V ((99m)Tc-AV) uptake correlates with left ventricular remodeling (LVR) after myocardial infarction, we assessed (99m)Tc-AV uptake in rat model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion.
Methods: The left coronary artery (LCA) of 15 rats was occluded for 20 to 30 min, followed by reperfusion. After 2 weeks, (99m)Tc-AV was injected, and then 1 h later, (201)Tl was injected after reocclusion of the LCA. Dual-tracer autoradiography was performed to assess (99m)Tc-AV uptake and the area at risk (AAR) by (201)Tl defect. (99m)Tc-AV uptake ratio was calculated by dividing the count density of the AAR by that of the normally perfused area. In short-axis LV slices, LV cavity dilation index (DI) was calculated by dividing the area of LV cavity by that of the whole LV area. LV wall-thinning ratio (WTR) was calculated by dividing the LV wall thickness in the AAR by that of the normally perfused area.
Results: Significant (99m)Tc-AV uptake in the AAR was observed in 10 rats. DI was significantly higher in rats with positive (99m)Tc-AV uptake than in rats without uptake. WTR was smaller in rats with positive (99m)Tc-AV uptake than in rats without uptake.
Conclusions: The data suggest (99m)Tc-AV uptake in injured myocardium might correlate with LVR at 2 weeks after myocardial ischemia and reperfusion.

Introduction: In isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD), the evidence of cognitive impairment and co-existing amyloid pathology suggests that mild behavioral impairment (MBI) may be associated with disease progression. In this study, we investigated MBI and its association with cognitive function, brain amyloid load and glucose metabolism in iRBD patients to evaluate the utility of MBI as a predictive marker of disease progression.
Methods: Patients with iRBD underwent a neuropsychological evaluation, F-florbetaben (FBB) PET, and F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET.

Rhodothalassium (Rts.) salexigens is a halophilic purple nonsulfur bacterium and the sole species in the genus Rhodothalassium, which is itself the sole genus in the family Rhodothalassiaceae and sole family in the order Rhodothalassiales (class Alphaproteobacteria). The genome of this phylogenetically unique phototroph comprises 3.

This study provides an in-depth qualitative exploration of Aboriginal peoples' experiences with seeking help for gambling-related issues in the Northern Territory (NT), Australia. Through semi-structured interviews with 29 participants, including regular and occasional gamblers as well as those affected by others' gambling, the research highlights key barriers to seeking formal help. These barriers included the normalisation of gambling within Aboriginal communities, denial of gambling problems, feelings of shame, privacy concerns, and a lack of trust in mainstream services.

Falls are a serious problem confronting older adults. Evidence demonstrates that multifactorial interventions that target multiple risk factors can reduce falls. However, resource and access constraints impact intervention uptake and sustainability.

Carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) involved in the degradation of plant cell walls and/or the assimilation of plant carbohydrates for energy uptake are widely distributed in microorganisms. In contrast, they are less frequent in animals, although there are exceptions, including examples of CAZymes acquired by horizontal gene transfer (HGT) from bacteria or fungi in several of phytophagous arthropods and plant-parasitic nematodes. Although the whitefly Bemisia tabaci is a major agricultural pest, knowledge of HGT-acquired CAZymes in this phloem-feeding insect of the Hemiptera order (subfamily Aleyrodinae) is still lacking.
