A novel, stereoselective approach towards rosuvastatin calcium from the known (S)-homoallylic alcohol has been developed. The synthesis is highlighted by a regio- and stereocontrolled ICl-induced intramolecular cyclization of chiral homoallylic carbonate to deliver the C6-formyl statin side chain with a syn-1,3-diol moiety. An improved synthesis of the rosuvastatin pyrimidine core moiety is also included. Moreover, this methodology is useful in the asymmetric synthesis of structural variants of statins such as pitavastatin calcium and atorvastatin calcium and their related analogs.

This study assessed the therapeutic effectiveness of a single-pill combination (SPC) of olmesartan/amlodipine plus rosuvastatin for blood pressure (BP) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in patients with hypertension and dyslipidemia. Adult patients with hypertension and dyslipidemia who were decided to be treated with the study drug were eligible. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients who achieved BP, LDL-C and both BP and LDL-C treatment goals at weeks 24-48.

The study evaluated the anti-hyperlipidemic effects of myrcenol and curzerene on a high fat diet induced hyperlipidemia rat model. Thirty male albino rats were fed on a high-fat diet for four months. The HFD-induced hyperperlipidemia rats were treated with rosuvastatin (10 mg/kg), curzerene (130 mg/kg) and myrcenol (100 mg/kg) for four weeks.

Context: Statin treatment lowers low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol thereby reducing cardiovascular risk. Meta-analyses of clinical trials report a higher risk of new-onset type 2 diabetes with statins. Current clinical evidence regarding effects of statins on insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function is limited.

Statins are the primary drugs used to prevent cardiovascular disease by inhibiting the HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme crucial for the synthesis of LDL cholesterol in the liver. A significant number of patients experience adverse drug reactions (ADRs), particularly musculoskeletal problems, which can affect adherence to treatment. Recent clinical guidelines, such as those from the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) in 2022, recommend adjusting rosuvastatin doses based on genetic variations in the and genes to minimize ADRs and improve treatment efficacy.

The research focuses on the characterization and evaluation of drug delivery efficiency of a microwave-assisted, free-radical synthesized polyacrylamide-grafted Assam Bora rice starch (ABRS) graft copolymer (ABRS-g-PAM). Percentage grafting efficiency (% GE) and intrinsic viscosity were chosen as the optimization parameters. The optimized ABRS-g-PAM Grade Formulation 4 (GF4) was found to be the best grade.
