Objective: The objective was to evaluate and compare the whole blood nitrite concentration in the three trimesters of pregnancy. Additionally, we investigate whether there is any relation between nitrite concentrations and Doppler ultrasound analysis of some maternal and fetal vessels.

Methods: Thirty-three healthy pregnant women were examined at the first (11-14 weeks), second (20-24 weeks) and third trimester (34-36 weeks) of pregnancy. In the three exams, we determined the maternal whole blood nitrite concentration and uterine arteries Doppler analysis to determine pulsatility index (PI), and resistance index (RI). In the second and third trimester we also performed fetal umbilical and middle cerebral arteries PI and RI. We compared the concentrations of nitrite in three trimesters and correlated with Doppler parameters.

Results: No difference was observed in the whole blood nitrite concentrations across trimesters: 151.70 ± 77.90 nmol/ml, 142.10 ± 73.50 nmol/ml and 147.10 ± 87.30 nmol/ml; first, second and third trimesters, respectively. We found no difference in correlation between whole blood nitrite concentration and Doppler parameters from the evaluated vessels.

Conclusions: In healthy pregnant women, the nitrite concentrations did not change across gestational trimesters and there was also no strong correlation with Doppler impedance indices from maternal uterine arteries and fetal umbilical and middle cerebral arteries.

Background: Impaired interstitial fluid drainage in the brain is indicated by the presence of perivascular β-amyloid (Aβ) deposits and is attributed to alterations in contractility and relaxation of vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs). The brain microvasculature in Alzheimer disease (AD) accumulates amyloid-forming amylin secreted from the pancreas. Here, we tested the hypothesis that cerebrovascular amylin deposits perturbs cerebral Aβ efflux by impairing cerebral vasodilation.

Nitroglycerin is a potent vasodilator in clinical use since the late 1800s. It functions as a prodrug that is bioactivated by formation of an enzyme-based thionitrate, E-Cys-NO. This intermediate reportedly decomposes to release NO and NO but their relative yields remain controversial.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological condition resulting in decreased aerobic capacity (peak VO). The hemodynamic responses to peak exercise in MS are unknown. Further, it is unknown if the hemodynamic responses are due to disease or fitness.

Objectives: Urinalysis is widely used and is also frequently requested in emergency situations for screening hypovolemia, urinary tract infections, diabetes, ketoacidosis and hematuria. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of reporting urinary sediment in emergency department specimens with the Sysmex UN system.

Methods: We evaluated urinalyses requested by the emergency department over a three-month period and examined red blood cell count interference, compared leukocyte esterase dipsticks to cytofluorimetric leukocyte count and nitrites to cytofluorimetric bacterial count.

To analyze the correlation of exon rs1126671 and exon rs971074 polymorphisms with risky drinking behaviors and alcoholic liver disease. The patients with alcoholic liver disease diagnosed in the Gastroenterology Department of the People's Hospital of Hechi from November 2021 to June 2022, including 52 cases of alcoholic liver disease with positive risky drinking behaviors, 103 cases of non-alcoholic liver disease with positive risky drinking behaviors of the same gender and age, and 105 healthy subjects with no risky drinking behaviors as control groups were retrospectively analyzed. The serum total protein and albumin are detected by immunoturbidimetry and globulin is calculated by the difference method; the serum total bilirubin and direct bilirubin are detected by the nitrite oxidation method and indirect bilirubin is calculated by the difference method; alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and γ-glutamyl transferase are detected by the substrate method.
