This study investigated the effect of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) rinses and chlorhexidine (CHX) on the bacterial viability of S. mutans, A. israelii, P. gingivalis, A. actinomycetemcomitans, E. corrodens, C. rectus, K. oxytoca, K. pneumoniae and E. cloacae. The percentage of live bacteria was tested by fluorescence method using Live/Dead kit(r) and BacLight (Molecular Probes(r)) and compared between groups by the Kruskal-Wallis and U Mann-Whitney tests with Bonferroni correction (p value<0.012). The effect of HOCl and CHX on total proteins of P. gingivalis and S. mutans was determined by SDS-PAGE. CHX showed a higher efficacy than HOCl against S. mutans, A. israelii, E. corrodens and E. cloacae (p<0.001) while HOCl was more effective than CHX against P. gingivalis, A. actinomycetemcomitans, C. rectus and K. oxytoca (p=0.001). CHX and HOCl had similar efficacy against K. pneumoniae. Proteins of P. gingivalis and S. mutans were affected similarly by HOCl and CHX. HOCl reduced the bacterial viability especially in periodontopathic bacteria, which may support its use in the control of subgingival biofilm in periodontal patients.

BACKGROUND Different temperature conditions can affect the efficiency of irrigation solutions and consequently the ability of canal sealers to bond to root canal walls. The aim of this endodontic study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation solutions at different temperatures on the bond strength of a bioceramic-based root canal sealer. MATERIAL AND METHODS Root canal preparations were completed through irrigation with the following solutions: Group 1 was irrigated with 5 ml NaOCl (sodium hypochlorite) +5 ml EDTA (Ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid) (22°C); Group 2 was irrigated with 5 ml NaOCl +5 ml EDTA (37°C); Group 3 was irrigated with 5 ml NaOCl +5 ml GA (Glycolic acid) (22°C); Group 4 was irrigated with 5 ml NaOCl +5 ml GA (37°C), Group 5 was irrigated with 20 ml Dual Rinse® HEDP (Etidronate) - NaOCl mixture (22°C); and Group 6 was irrigated with 20 ml of Dual Rinse® HEDP mixture (37°C).

Objectives: This study evaluates the effect of different irrigation solutions for postoperative pain in the regenerative endodontic treatments (RET) of necrotic teeth with open apex.
Materials And Methods: This study included necrotic, deeply carious lower molars of 42 patients. Access cavities of the teeth were opened and working lengths were measured at the first visit.

The ultraviolet-activated peroxymosnofulate (UV/PMS) system, an effective advanced oxidation process for removing dissolved organic matter (DOM) from wastewater, is limited by high chloride ion (Cl) concentrations in landfill leachate. This study used Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry to explore the transformation of DOM in the UV/PMS system with a high Cl concentration. The results revealed that elevated Cl levels generate reactive chlorine species, including chlorine radicals, dichlorine radicals, and hypochlorous acid/hypochlorite, reducing the total organic carbon (TOC) removal efficiency of Suwannee River natural organic matter (SRNOM) from 78.

Hypochlorous acid can be employed as a biomarker for blood infection (such as sepsis) and tissue damage (such as drug-induced liver injury, DILI), and the diagnosis of tissue damage or blood infection can be achieved through the detection of hypochlorous acid in relevant biological samples. Considering the complex environment and the diverse interferences in living organisms and blood plasma, developing new detection methods for HClO with high signal-to-background ratios is particularly important, and it can improve the accuracy of detection and quality of imaging based on a higher contrast, which makes the detection of HClO clearer and more accurate. Here, based on the advantages of the NIR fluorescence/photoacoustic dual-modal probe, we reported a hypochlorous acid-activatable NIR fluorescence/photoacoustic dual-modal probe (NIRF-PA-HClO) based on the spirolactam ring-opening strategy in this paper.
