First results of direct selective laser trabeculoplasty for the treatment of glaucoma.

BMJ Open Ophthalmol

March 2025

Eye Clinic, Multidisciplinary Department of Medical, Surgical and Dental Sciences, University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Caserta, Italy.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of direct selective laser trabeculoplasty (DSLT) on eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and on primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) eyes at 1 year follow-up.

Methods: In this study, 54 patients affected by POAG (76) or PACG (28) undergoing DSLT were enrolled, for a total of 104 eyes. Before each treatment and at each follow-up visit, all subjects underwent a complete eye visit, including the collection of data regarding the number and type of topical medications prescribed for glaucoma.

Background: Accurate prediction of pathologic complete response (pCR) following neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy (nICT) is crucial for tailoring patient care in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). This study aimed to develop and validate a deep learning model using a novel voxel-level radiomics approach to predict pCR based on preoperative CT images.

Methods: In this multicenter, retrospective study, 741 patients with ESCC who underwent nICT followed by radical esophagectomy were enrolled from three institutions.

Objective: Randomised clinical trials have demonstrated superiority of the Eluvia stent over Zilver PTX for femoropopliteal artery disease in terms of one and two year clinical outcomes, but comparative real world data beyond two years are not available. This study aimed to compare Zilver PTX and Eluvia stents and reports three year primary patency, patient outcomes, and safety results from the REALDES study.

Methods: The REALDES study was a prospective, multicentre, observational study that enrolled adult patients with symptomatic femoropopliteal disease scheduled for treatment with either Zilver PTX or Eluvia.

Cervical cancer (CC) and ovarian cancer (OC) are among the most common gynecological cancers with significant mortality in women, and their incidence is increasing. In addition to the prominent role of the malignant aspect of these cancers in cancer-related women deaths, chemotherapy drug resistance is a major factor that contributes to their mortality and presents a clinical obstacle. Although the exact mechanisms behind the chemoresistance in these cancers has not been revealed, accumulating evidence points to the dysregulation of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), particularly long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs), as key contributors.
