Scanning Near-field Optical Microscopy (SNOM) has been successful in finely tuning the optical properties of photonic crystal (PC) nanocavities. The SNOM nanoprobes proposed so far allowed for either redshifting or blueshifting the resonance peak of the PC structures. In this paper, we theoretically demonstrate the possibility of a redshifting (up to +0.65 nm) and a blueshifting (up to -5 nm) the PC cavity resonance wavelength with a single perturbation element. As an example, a fiber bowtie-aperture nano-antenna (BNA) engraved at the apex of a SNOM tip is proposed to play this role. The double-way tunability is the result of a competition between an induced electric dipole (BNA at resonance) leading to a redshift and an induced magnetic dipole (the tip metalcoating) giving rise to a blueshift of the resonance wavelength. We demonstrate that the sign of the spectral shift can be simply controlled through the tip-to-cavity distance. This study opens the way to the full postproduction control of the resonance wavelength of high quality-factor optical cavities.

Optical techniques, such as functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), contain high potential for the development of non-invasive wearable systems for evaluating cerebral vascular condition in aging, due to their portability and ability to monitor real-time changes in cerebral hemodynamics. In this study, thirty-six healthy adults were measured by single channel fNIRS to explore differences between two age groups using machine learning (ML). The subjects, measured during functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) at Oulu University Hospital, were divided into young (age ≤ 32) and elderly (age ≥ 57) groups.

This research proposes an all-metal metamaterial-based absorber with a novel geometry capable of refractive index sensing in the terahertz (THz) range. The structure consists of four concentric diamond-shaped gold resonators on the top of a gold metal plate; the resonators increase in height by 2 µm moving from the outer to the inner resonators, making the design distinctive. This novel configuration has played a very significant role in achieving multiple ultra-narrow resonant absorption peaks that produce very high sensitivity when employed as a refractive index sensor.

We report the fabrication and characterization of a Bi(III) oxide/polypyrrole (BiO/Ppy) nanocomposite thin film optoelectronic photodetector synthesized by a simple one-pot method. The nanocomposite consists of spherical BiO nanoparticles embedded in a Ppy matrix, forming a porous structure with a high surface area. The XRD analysis reveals that the BiO nanoparticles have a poly-crystalline nature with a crystal size of 40 nm and an optical bandgap of 2.

Bifunctional Group Modulation Strategy Enables MR-TADF Electroluminescence Toward BT.2020 Green Light Standard.

Adv Mater

January 2025

Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Research Center of Energy Optoelectronic Materials and Devices, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ningbo, 315201, P. R. China.

Herein, a parallel "bifunctional group" modulation method is proposed to achieve controlled modulation of the emission wavelength and full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) values. As a result, three proof-of-concept emitters, namely DBNDS-TPh, DBNDS-DFPh, and DBNDS-CNPh, are designed and synthesized, with the first functional dibenzo[b,d]thiophene unit concurrently reducing the bandgap and elevate their triplet state energy. A second functional group 1,1':3',1″-triphenyl, and electron acceptors 1,3-difluorobenzene and benzonitrile, respectively, to deepen the HOMO and LUMO levels.

Polyfluorene-Enhanced Near-Infrared Electrochemiluminescence of Heptamethine Cyanine Dye for Coreactants-Free Bioanalysis.

Key Laboratory of Luminescence Analysis and Molecular Sensing (Southwest University), Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Southwest University, Chongqing 400715, PR China.

The near-infrared electrochemiluminescence (NIR-ECL) technique has received special attention in cell imaging and biomedical analysis due to its deep tissue penetration, low background interference, and high sensitivity. Although cyanine-based dyes are promising NIR-ECL luminophores, limited ECL efficiency and the need for exogenous coreactants have prevented their widespread application. In this work, poly[9,9-bis(3'-(-dimethylamino)propyl)-2,7-fluorene]--2,7-(9,9-dioctylfluorene)] (PFN) was innovatively developed to significantly invigorate the NIR-ECL performance of heptamethine cyanine dye IR 783 by the resonance energy transfer (RET) strategy.
