The effects of changing the orientation of the rotation axis on homogeneous turbulence is considered. We perform direct numerical simulations on a periodic box of 1024(3) grid points, where the orientation of the rotation axis is changed (a) at a fixed time instant (b) regularly at time intervals commensurate with the rotation time scale. The former is characterized by a dominant inverse energy cascade whereas in the latter, the inverse cascade is stymied due to the recurrent changes in the rotation axis resulting in a strong forward energy transfer and large-scale structures that resemble those of isotropic turbulence.

Background: Gait instability and falls significantly impact life quality and morbi-mortality in elderly populations. Early diagnosis of gait disorders is one of the most effective approaches to minimize severe injuries.

Objective: To find a gait instability pattern in older adults through an image representation of data collected by a single sensor.

In functionally aligned total knee arthroplasty, femoral component rotation follows the transepicondylar axis to achieve flexion balance.

Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc

January 2025

Clinical Research Department, Sydney Knee Specialists, Kogarah, New South Wales, Australia.

Purpose: In functionally aligned (FA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA), femoral component rotation (FCR) is personalised to optimise flexion gap balance. As axial malalignment has been attributed to patellofemoral complications, this study assessed FA FCR in relation to the surgical transepicondylar axis (TEA) and early implant survivorship.

Methods: We analysed 446 robotic-assisted primary TKAs in 393 patients using FA with preresection gap balancing.

To alleviate water resource shortages and tensions and meet the water diversion needs of different river basins, buried (cross-dam) pipelines have become an essential component of water diversion projects. They are installed in levee projects in key river basins such as the Yellow River, Jingjiang River, and Beijiang River. Due to the complex engineering structure and multiple sources of vibration excitation, if vibrations propagate along the pipeline axis towards the surrounding levee, they could have an adverse impact on the stability and safe operation of the levee.

The present study analyzed the kinematic changes under fatigue in highly trained adolescent swimmers during a 50-m all-out front cwal test. Twenty-four girls and fourteen boys aged 12-13 participated in the study. The movement of the hip rim was analyzed using a specialized inertial device equipped with a triaxial gyroscope and accelerometer to measure changes in angular velocity and acceleration.

In clinical movement biomechanics, kinematic measurements are collected to characterise the motion of articulating joints and investigate how different factors influence movement patterns. Representative time-series signals are calculated to encapsulate (complex and multidimensional) kinematic datasets succinctly. Exacerbated by numerous difficulties to consistently define joint coordinate frames, the influence of local frame orientation and position on the characteristics of the resultant kinematic signals has been previously proven to be a major limitation.
