The effect of a peripheral cholinergic blocking agent on the activity of some digestive enzymes involved in protein hydrolysis was studied on albino rats under normal conditions and during stress. Metacine was administered orally. Single doses were 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg. At long-term administration and in the subsequent series of experiments the dose was 200 mg/kg. The experiments showed that the drug treatment produced significant changes in the activity of digestive enzymes involved in protein hydrolysis. A preliminary administration of metacine was found to smooth out the changes in the activity of the enzymes observed under conditions of immobilization and hyperthermia.

Many contaminants from scattered sources constantly endanger streams that flow through heavily inhabited areas, commercial districts, and industrial hubs. The responses of transplanted mussels in streams in active biomonitoring programs will reflect the dynamics of environmental stream conditions. This study evaluated the untargeted metabolomic and proteomic responses and free radical scavenging activities of transplanted mussels Sinanodonta woodiana in the Winongo Stream at three stations (S1, S2, S3) representing different pollution levels: low (S1), high (S2), and moderate (S3).

The current investigation assessed the beneficial impacts of dietary sodium chloride (NaCl) on the growth performance, oxidant/antioxidant, and immune responses of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and its adaptability to different salinity levels. After acclimating the fish to the laboratory conditions for 2 weeks, the acclimated fish (10.5 ± 0.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), traditionally consumed as fermented foods, are now being applied to the medical field beyond health-functional food as probiotics. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously discover and evaluate new strains with suitable probiotic characteristics, mainly focusing on safety. In this study, we isolated eight new strains from postmenopausal vaginal fluid using culturomics approaches, an emerging area of interest.

Obesity, as a global health crisis, is increasingly linked to intestinal microecology. Probiotics colonise the body, effectively regulating the balance of intestinal flora, while strengthening the intestinal barrier, activating the immune response, releasing beneficial substances, and maintaining micro-ecological balance. This process not only enhances the defence against pathogens, but also reduces the production of inflammatory factors and lowers the level of chronic inflammation.

Background: Infliximab and adalimumab are the only biologics thus far approved for paediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), so other biologics, such as vedolizumab, are prescribed off-label. Despite its frequent use, prospective data for vedolizumab treatment in children are available only for short-term induction outcomes. We aimed to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of maintenance therapy with vedolizumab in paediatric patients with IBD.
