A new and high performance polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) digestor was designed and fabricated in-house for the total dissolution of granite samples for the determination of technology-critical elements (TCEs) by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Initially, the granite sample (∼0.25 g) was placed in the PTFE digestor and added 8 mL(v/v) of 20%HF+40%HCl+10%HNO acid mixture.

The chemical inertness of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabrics poses challenges in achieving superhydrophobic coatings with durable adhesion on their surfaces. Conventional surface modification methods such as alkali etching and plasma etching typically compromise the favorable mechanical properties of PET. In this study, polydopamine (PDA) was utilized to functionalize the PET fabric nondestructively by creating robust and reactive hydroxyl and amine groups on its surface, which were subsequently used as a binder of superhydrophobic modifiers such as fluorine-free octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS).

Inflammation is an important driver of disease in the context of atherosclerosis, and several landmark trials have shown that targeting inflammatory pathways can reduce cardiovascular event rates. However, the high cost and potentially serious adverse effects of anti-inflammatory therapies necessitate more precise patient selection. Traditional biomarkers of inflammation, such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), show an association with cardiovascular risk on a population level, but do not have specificity for local plaque inflammation.

Background: Soda pans are unique, natural aquatic environments characterised by elevated salinity and alkalinity, creating a distinctive and often extreme geochemistry. The microbiomes of soda pans are unique, with extremophiles such as halophiles, alkaliphiles and haloalkaliphiles being important. Despite being dominated by mostly unculturable inhabitants, soda pans hold immense biotechnological potential.

Na,K-ATPase is the active ion transport system that maintains the electrochemical gradients for Na and K across the plasma membrane of most animal cells. Na,K-ATPase is constituted by the association of two major subunits, a catalytic α and a glycosylated β subunit, both of which exist as different isoforms (in mammals known as α1, α2, α3, α4, β1, β2 and β3). Na,K-ATPase α and β isoforms assemble in different combinations to produce various isozymes with tissue specific expression and distinct biochemical properties.
