To assess the impact of ongoing, historically unprecedented Arctic ice melting, precisely synchronized chronologies are indispensable for past analogs of abrupt climate change. Around 12,900 years before present (B.P.

Magnetic field-dependent magnetization of highly crystalline FeO magnetic nanoparticles has been carried out to understand surface canting structures at low and room temperatures. The exchange bias () values of ∼18 to 27 Oe at 300 K for three samples prepared from different precursors are observed; and a decrease in value is obtained when the samples are measured at 5 K. However, with a decrease in temperature, coercivity () increases.

Heart failure is a common and deadly disease requiring new treatments. The neuregulin-1/ERBB4 pathway offers cardioprotective benefits, but using recombinant neuregulin-1 as therapy has limitations due to the need for intravenous delivery and lack of receptor specificity. We hypothesize that small-molecule activation of ERBB4 could protect against heart damage and fibrosis.

Polar ice cores and historical records evidence a large-magnitude volcanic eruption in 1831 CE. This event was estimated to have injected ~13 Tg of sulfur (S) into the stratosphere which produced various atmospheric optical phenomena and led to Northern Hemisphere climate cooling of ~1 °C. The source of this volcanic event remains enigmatic, though one hypothesis has linked it to a modest phreatomagmatic eruption of Ferdinandea in the Strait of Sicily, which may have emitted additional S through magma-crust interactions with evaporite rocks.

Prehospital management of exertional heat stroke (EHS) consists of monitoring rectal temperature (T) while aggressively cooling via cold water immersion. Recent recommendations suggest using central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction to determine cessation of cooling when T is not available. We examined cognitive responses of two runners with EHS after a road race.
