The landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) research is witnessing a transformative shift with the emergence of the Kolmogorov-Arnold network (KAN), presenting a novel architectural paradigm aimed to redefine the structural foundations of AI models, which are based on multilayer perceptron (MLP). Through rigorous experimentation and evaluation, we introduce the KAN-electroencephalogram (EEG) model, a tailored design for efficient seizure detection. Our proposed network is tested and successfully generalized on three different datasets, one from the USA, one from Europe, and one from Oceania, recorded with different front-end hardware.

CRISPR-Cas is a sophisticated defence system used by bacteria and archaea to fend off invaders. CRISPR-Cas systems vary in their Cas protein composition and have therefore been divided into different classes and types. Type I systems of bacteria have been shown to contain the small protein Cas11 as part of the interference complex known as Cascade.

Methods: This comprehensive review addresses the significant advances made in oocyte in vitro maturation with the biphasic capacitation (CAPA)-IVM strategy applied to small ovarian antral follicles in humans over the last 10 years. CAPA-IVM consists of a prematuration phase wherein immature oocytes are temporarily meiotically arrested to gain competence before undergoing meiotic resumption.

Background: This study evaluated the feasibility of ChatGPT and Gemini, two off-the-shelf large language models (LLMs), to automate causality assessments, focusing on Adverse Events Following Immunizations (AEFIs) of myocarditis and pericarditis related to COVID-19 vaccines.
Methods: We assessed 150 COVID-19-related cases of myocarditis and pericarditis reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) in the United States of America (USA). Both LLMs and human experts conducted the World Health Organization (WHO) algorithm for vaccine causality assessments, and inter-rater agreement was measured using percentage agreement.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of adding librarians and information specialists (LIS) as methodological peer reviewers to the formal journal peer review process on the quality of search reporting and risk of bias in systematic review searches in the medical literature.
Design: Pragmatic two-group parallel randomised controlled trial.
Setting: Three biomedical journals.
