The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) currently uses interim criteria developed on the US West Coast to assess the potential onset of peak and cumulative effects of noise on fishes. Analyses performed for this project provided adequate support for the NMFS to use the peak criterion (i.e., area ensonified by 206 dB re 1 μPa peak sound pressure level [SPL(peak)]) for estimating the incidental take of Hudson River sturgeon. Application of the peak criterion (rather than the cumulative criterion) could have implications for future construction projects because estimates of take using SPL(peak) will generally be considerably lower than estimates of take based on the cumulative sound exposure level.

Natural polysaccharides attract scientists and industries' interest with diverse applications in biomaterials, immune regulation, gut microbiota regulation, food additives, and more. Nevertheless, the absence of standardized purity criteria created significant challenges in characterizing polysaccharides, leading to varied and complicated structures, and impeding progress in research and development. Consequently, it is essential to obtain samples that adhere to high-level and unified purity standards for effective polysaccharide research.

Because coal seam mining with high geostress and high gas pressure is prone to coal-rock-gas compound dynamic disasters, a disaster energy equation considering the influence of roof elastic energy is established, and a disaster energy criterion considering the influence of roof elastic energy is derived and introduced into COMSOL software to conduct numerical simulations of coal seam mining under different geostress and gas pressures. The study revealed that the increase of ground stress reduces the gas pressure required for disaster occurrence. When the gas pressure reaches a certain value, the disaster will occur even if the ground stress is very small.

Objectives: To explore the synthesis of high-quality CT (sCT) from cone-beam CT (CBCT) using PE-CycleGAN for adaptive radiotherapy (ART) for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Methods: A perception-enhanced CycleGAN model "PE-CycleGAN" was proposed, introducing dual-contrast discriminator loss, multi-perceptual generator loss, and improved U-Net structure. CBCT and CT data from 80 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients were used as the training set, with 7 cases as the test set.

Hydraulic fracturing, which forms complex fracture networks, is a common technique for efficiently exploiting low-permeability conglomerate reservoirs. However, the presence of gravel makes conglomerate highly heterogeneous, endowing the deformation, failure, and internal micro-scale fracture expansion mechanisms with uniqueness. The mechanism of fracture expansion when encountering gravel in conglomerate reservoirs remains unclear, challenging the design and effective implementation of hydraulic fracturing.

Background: The three-class oddball paradigm allows to investigate the processing of behaviorally relevant and irrelevant auditory stimuli. In humans, event-related potentials (ERPs) are used as neural correlate of behavior. We recorded local field potentials (LFPs) within the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) in rats during three-class and passive two-class oddball paradigms and analyzed the ERPs focusing on similarities to human recordings.
