Effective immunotherapy, whether by checkpoint blockade or adoptive cell therapy, is limited in most patients by a key barrier: the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Suppression of tumor-specific T cells is orchestrated by the activity of a variety of stromal myeloid and lymphoid cells. These often display inducible suppressive mechanisms that are triggered by the same anti-tumor inflammatory response that the immunotherapy intends to create. Therefore, a more comprehensive understanding of how the immunosuppressive milieu develops and persists is critical in order to harness the full power of immunotherapy of cancer.

CD8+ T cells are critical for immune protection against severe COVID-19 during acute infection with SARS-CoV-2. However, the induction of antiviral CD8+ T cell responses varies substantially among infected people, and a better understanding of the mechanisms that underlie such immune heterogeneity is required for pandemic preparedness and risk stratification. In this study, we analyzed SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses in relation to age, clinical status, and inflammation among patients infected primarily during the initial wave of the pandemic in France or Japan.

However, the underlying mechanisms linking C3 to tumor metastasis remain elusive in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The current study examined the underlying mechanism and the effect of 1,3-thiazin-6-one on the growth of renal cancer. The findings showed that 1,3-thiazin-6-one treatment inhibited the growth of xenograft tumors in a dose-dependent manner in mice model of renal cancer. Furthermore, when 1,3-thiazin-6-one was administered in a dose-dependent manner to mice with renal cancer, the expression of the proteins p-PI3K and p-Akt significantly decreased.
