We have simulated the optical properties of Aza-Boron-dipyrromethene (Aza-BODIPY) dyes and, more precisely, the 0-0 energies as well as the shape of both absorption and fluorescence bands, thanks to the computation of vibronic couplings. To this end, time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations have been carried out with a systematic account of both vibrational and solvent effects. In a first step, we assessed different atomic basis sets, a panel of global and range-separated hybrid functionals as well as different solvent models (linear-response, corrected linear-response, and state-specific). In this way, we have defined an accurate yet efficient protocol for these dyes. In a second stage, several simulations have been carried out to investigate acidochromic and complexation effects, as well as the impact of side groups on the topology of the optical bands. In each case, theory is able to accurately reproduce experimental results and the proposed protocol is consequently useful to design new dyes featuring improved properties.

We present direct frequency comb cavity ring-down spectroscopy with Vernier filtering as a straightforward approach to sensitive and multiplexed trace gas detection. The high finesse cavity acts both to extend the interaction length with the sample and as a spectral filter, alleviating the need for dispersive elements or an interferometer. In this demonstration, a free running interband cascade laser was used to generate a comb centered at 3.

The energies and geometries of the lowest lying singlet and triplet states of the four diradicals formed by removing two H atoms from thiophene have been characterized. We utilized the highly correlated, multireference methods configuration interaction with single and double excitations with and without the Pople correction for size-extensivity (MR-CISD+Q and MR-CISD) and averaged quadratic coupled cluster theory (MR-AQCC). CAS (8,7) and CAS (10,8) active spaces involving σ, σ*, π, and π* orbitals were employed along with the cc-pVDZ and cc-pVTZ basis sets.

Classically, the refractive index of a medium is due to a response on said medium from an electromagnetic field. It has been shown that a single two-level atom interacting with a single photon undergoes dispersion. The following extends that analyses to a three-level system interacting with two photons.

This study investigates the impact of structural isomerism on the excited state lifetime and redox energetics of heteroleptic [Ir(ppy)2(bpy)]+ and homoleptic Ir(ppy)3 photoredox catalysts using ground-state and time-dependent density functional theory methods. While the ground- and excited-state reduction potentials differ only slightly among the isomers of these complexes, our findings reveal significant variations in the radiative and non-radiative decay rates of the reactivity-controlling triplet 3MLCT states of these closely related species. The observed differences in radiative decay rates could be traced back to variations in the transition dipole moment, vertical energy gaps, and spin-orbit coupling of the isomers.

Indane-based molecules are effective scaffolds for different pharmaceutical products, so it is relevant to analyze the relation between structure and functionality in indane derivatives. Here, we have characterized the conformational landscape and molecular structure of 1-aminoindane in the gas phase using chirped-excitation Fourier-transform microwave spectroscopy and computational methods. The rotational spectrum confirmed the presence of two conformers, which were identified based on their rotational constants and 14N nuclear quadrupole coupling tensor elements.
