Article Synopsis
  • Vulnerable plaques in cardiovascular health are gaining attention, with imaging techniques such as MCTA, USG, and MRI providing structural insights but lacking in cellular evaluation.
  • PET molecular imaging stands out by revealing cellular processes like inflammation and lipid oxidation, particularly through the use of the 18F-FDG radiotracer, which helps assess plaque characteristics and predict cardiovascular risks.
  • Despite some limitations with 18F-FDG, including sensitivity issues, other tracers like 18F-NaF show potential, making PET imaging a valuable tool in preventing major cardiovascular events in high-risk patients.
