In mice, transcription from the zygotic genome is initiated at the mid-1-cell stage after fertilization. Although a recent high-throughput sequencing (HTS) analysis revealed that this transcription occurs promiscuously throughout almost the entire genome in 1-cell stage embryos, a detailed investigation of this process has yet to be conducted using protein-coding genes. Thus, the present study utilized previous RNA sequencing (RNAseq) data to determine the characteristics and regulatory regions of genes transcribed at the 1-cell stage. While the expression patterns of protein-coding genes of mouse embryos were very different at the 1-cell stage than at other stages and in various tissues, an analysis for the upstream and downstream regions of actively expressed genes did not reveal any elements that were specific to 1-cell stage embryos. Therefore, the unique gene expression pattern observed at the 1-cell stage in mouse embryos appears to be governed by mechanisms independent of a specific promoter element.

Amyloidosis of the human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) is closely related to the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and serves as both a diagnostic hallmark and a key therapeutic target for T2D. In this study, we discovered that oritavancin (Ori), a glycopeptide antibiotic primarily prescribed for Gram-positive bacterial infections, can dose-dependently inhibit recombinant hIAPP (rhIAPP) amyloid formation. Ori specifically inhibited rhIAPP amyloid formation at the initial nucleation stage but didn't affect mature rhIAPP fibrils.

The model is based on the human alveolar epithelial cell line Arlo co-cultured with macrophages differentiated from the THP-1 cell line, creating a physiological biological microenvironment. To mimic the three-dimensional architecture and dynamic expansion and relaxation of the air-blood-barrier, they are grown on a stretchable microphysiological lung-on-chip.

Background: SOX13 is a transcription factor belonging to the SOX family. SOX proteins are critical regulators of multiple cancer progression, and some are known to control carcinogenesis. Nevertheless, the functional and clinical significance of SOX13 in human thyroid cancer (THCA) remain largely unelucidated.

Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a rare but one of the most lethal types of human cancer. Although increasing evidence demonstrated that ATC tumors had a high mutation burden, little is known about the aberrancy of the noncoding genome of ATC except the well-investigated () promoter mutations. The mutational statuses of 5' untranslated region (5'UTR), intron 6, and promoters, as well as the promoter and mutations were determined using Sanger sequencing in 28 patients with ATC (19 women and 9 men) with a median (interquartile range) age of 64 (55-71) years, 14 thyroid cancer cell lines and a normal thyroid cell line.

Mycoplasma synoviae is an important avian pathogen that causes respiratory infections and arthritis symptoms in chickens and turkeys, resulting in significant economic damage to the poultry farming industry worldwide. Cell adhesion is a vital stage of Mycoplasma infection, and the proteins associated with this process play an important role in its pathogenesis. Elongation factor thermo stable (EF-Ts) is an important factor in prokaryotic biosynthesis that serves as a guanosine exchange factor for elongation factor thermo unstable (EF-Tu).
