The asymmetric unit of the title nickel(II) porphyrin, [Ni(C48H60N4O2)], contains one independent mol-ecule. The average Ni-N bond length is 1.917 (13) Å. The mol-ecules are arranged in a closely spaced lattice structure in which neighbouring porphyrins are oriented in inversion-related dimers. The nickel(II) porphyrin is characterized by a significant degree of a ruffled (B 1u ) conformation with small contributions from saddle (B 2u ) and wave (y) [Eg (y)], as determined using normal structural decomposition. Disorder in the 2,5-di--meth-oxy-phenyl substituent was modelled over two positions with a 60% occupancy for the major moiety. One of the ethyl groups is also disordered over two positions and was modelled with the major moiety being present in 51.3% occupancy.

Conjugated polymers have revolutionized the field of conductometric gas sensors for sensing toxic gases arising from the fast urbanization and industrialization. In this work, we report the synthesis of a series of 5,15-diaryl Ni(II) porphyrin-conjugated polymers () and their integration as the top layer on an octafluorinated copper phthalocyanine () sublayer to construct bilayer heterojunction (BLH) devices for ammonia sensing. For the first time, we report the pioneering demonstration of polarity engineering within a BLH device by manipulating the -substituent of the 5,15-diaryl Ni(II) porphyrin-conjugated polymer constituting the top layer of the BLH device.

Polydisperse edge-fused nickel(II) porphyrin nanoribbons have been synthesized by Yamamoto coupling followed by gold(III)-mediated fusion, with average degrees of polymerization of up to 37 repeat units (length 31 nm). Time-resolved optical-pump terahertz spectroscopy measurements indicate that photo-generated charge carriers have dc mobilities of up to 205 cm V s in these nanoribbons, exceeding the values previously reported for most other types of nanoribbon or π-conjugated polymer.

Microporous molecular crystals are promising materials because of their designable porosity as well as their resistance to chemical and other stimuli. Here, we developed microporous molecular cocrystals by taking advantage of the specific interactions between porphyrins and fullerene molecules. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that one nickel(II) porphyrin interacts with two fullerene molecules to form a two-dimensional honeycomb network with an eclipsed stacking mode, providing one-dimensional void channels.

Porphyrin-based molecular catalysts possess a typical aromatic macrocyclic structure regarding their metal centers and coordination frameworks, allowing for the development of promising electrocatalysts through precise selection of the metal and porphyrin ligand. However, reports on metalloporphyrins as catalysts for the electrocatalytic urea oxidation reaction (UOR) remain scarce. With these considerations in mind, the triphenylamine-Ni(II) porphyrin (NiPor-TPA) was synthesized through the solvothermal approach from 5,10,15,20-tetrakis [4-(diphenylamino)phenyl]porphyrin and nickel(II) acetate in this work.
