CENP-E haploinsufficiency causes chromosome misalignment and spindle assembly checkpoint activation in the spermatogonia.

Andrology

December 2024

Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, The School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou, Fujian, China.

Background: The establishment of kinetochore-microtubule attachment is essential for error-free chromosome alignment and segregation during cell division. Defects in chromosome alignment result in chromosome instability, birth defects, and infertility. Kinesin-7 CENP-E mediates kinetochore-microtubule capture, chromosome alignment, and spindle assembly checkpoint in somatic cells, however, mechanisms of CENP-E in germ cells remain poorly understood.

We present a case of a 72-year-old female patient with dyspnea and lipothymia. Echocardiography demonstrates an intracavitary cystic mass that fills almost all left atria causing supravalvular obstruction. The magnetic resonance image revealed a 53 × 47 × 48 mm heterogeneous mass with regular edges, tissue characterization suggested myxoma.

Aggressive fibromatosis is a rare, benign proliferative disease with unknown aetiology and high recurrence rate. To date, there are only eight reported cases affecting the larynx. Four were managed with total laryngectomy, whilst spontaneous regression happened in one case.

Introduction: Esophageal leiomyoma is the most common benign submucosal mesenchymal tumor of the esophagus, typically asymptomatic but can cause symptoms such as dysphagia, chest pain, or regurgitation when large. Diagnosis is often incidental, confirmed by imaging techniques like computed tomography (CT) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), with surgical enucleation being the standard treatment.

Presentation Of Case: A 28-year-old male presented with a one-year history of persistent epigastric discomfort and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms unresponsive to proton pump inhibitors.

PP2A-Tws dephosphorylates Map205, is required for Polo localization to microtubules and promotes cytokinesis in Drosophila.

Cell Div

December 2024

Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer, Département de biochimie et médecine moléculaire, Université de Montréal, Montreal, Québec, Canada.

Background: Mitosis and cytokinesis are regulated by reversible phosphorylation events controlled by kinases and phosphatases. Drosophila Polo kinase, like its human ortholog PLK1, plays several roles in this process. Multiple mechanisms contribute to regulate Polo/PLK1 activity, localization and interactions.
