Since 2013, outbreaks of disease caused by duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV) have been observed in layer and broiler duck farms in Thailand. The virus is closely related to Chinese DTMUVs and belongs to the Ntaya group of mosquitoborne flaviviruses. These findings represent the emergence of DTMUV in ducks in Thailand.

Duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV), an emerging avian pathogenic flavivirus, is notably associated with neurological disorders and acute egg drop syndrome in ducks. We previously demonstrated that the susceptibility of ducks to DTMUV infection varies significantly with age, with younger ducks (4-week-old) exhibiting more severe disease than older ducks (27-week-old). However, the immunological mechanisms underlying these age-related differences in disease severity remain unclear.

Dead on arrival (DOA) refers to animals, particularly poultry, that die during the pre-slaughter phase. Elevated rates of DOA frequently signify substandard welfare conditions and might stem from multiple causes, resulting in diminished productivity and economic losses. This study included 18,643 truckload entries from 45 farms, encompassing a total of 23,191,809 meat-type ducks sent to a single slaughterhouse in Eastern Thailand between January 2019 and December 2023.

This study addresses the valorization of duck blood, an underutilized protein-rich by-product from the poultry industry, into bioactive protein hydrolysates with antioxidant and ACE inhibitory properties. Raw and heat-treated duck blood were compared as substrates for enzymatic hydrolysis using Neutrase and Papain. Gel electrophoresis revealed that heat treatment reduced fibrinogen content, while FTIR analysis showed that heat treatment modified the protein structure, increasing β-sheet content from 21.
