Article Synopsis
  • - The overuse of antimicrobials in livestock, particularly in Brazil's cattle industry, has led to the rise of multidrug-resistant bacteria, specifically E. coli that produce extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESβL).
  • - A study examined E. coli strains from dairy cattle on a farm that routinely uses cephalosporins, identifying the presence of ESβL-producing bacteria in both calves and cows, with the CTX-M-15 variant being predominant.
  • - The findings indicate that the intestinal microbiota of dairy cattle may aid the spread of these resistant strains, particularly the globally recognized ST90 clone, prompting concerns about its potential zoonotic effects and implications for food safety.

The widespread prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli limits treatment options and is a worldwide problem. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial susceptibility and ESBL types of 204 strains of CTX-M-type ESBLsproducing E. coli isolated from 2011 to 2017 in the Chubu region of Japan and to identify factors correlated with susceptibility.

Extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing ST131 has become widespread worldwide. This study aims to characterize the virulome, resistome, and population structure of ST131 isolates from clinical blood samples in Hungary. A total of 30 C2/H30Rx and 33 C1-M27 ST131 isolates were selected for Illumina MiSeq sequencing and 30 isolates for MinION sequencing, followed by hybrid de novo assembly.

The global spread of cefotaxime-hydrolysing β-lactamase (CTX-M)-producing () and its associated impact on paediatric diarrhoeal treatment and management has become a public health concern. This review assessed surveillance studies on CTX-M-producing associated with diarrhoea in children published between 2012 and 2022 globally. A total of thirty-eight studies were included for data analysis, categorised into continental regions, and tabulated.

ESBL-producing is a public health concern in healthcare settings and the community. Between 2009 and 2018, a total of 187 ESBL-producing pathogenic isolates were identified, and clonal complex (CC) 10 was the predominant clone ( = 57). This study aimed to characterize the ESBL-producing pathogenic CC10 strains obtained from patients with diarrhea to improve our understanding of CC10 distribution in the Republic of Korea.
