In this paper, we present a new, efficient implementation of a fully polarizable QM/MM/continuum model based on an induced-dipoles polarizable force field and on the Conductor-like Screening Model as a polarizable continuum in combination with a self-consistent field QM method. The paper focuses on the implementation of the MM/continuum embedding, where the two polarizable methods are fully coupled to take into account their mutual polarization. With respect to previous implementations, we achieve for the first time a linear scaling with respect to both the computational cost and the memory requirements without limitations on the molecular cavity shape. This is achieved thanks to the use of the recently developed ddCOSMO model for the continuum and the Fast Multipole Method for the force field, together with an efficient iterative procedure. Therefore, it becomes possible to include in the classical layer as much as several tens of thousands of atoms with a limited computational effort.

Adverse effects of advanced age and poor initial neurological status on outcomes of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) have been documented. While a predictive model of the non-linear correlation between advanced age and clinical outcome has been reported, no previous model has been validated. Therefore, we created a prediction model of the non-linear correlation between advanced age and clinical outcome by machine learning and validated it using a separate cohort.

This study investigates the surfactant properties and efficiency of linear and Guerbet-type amino acid surfactants. Utilizing a Wilhelmy plate method, we assessed the colloidal efficiency of these surfactants, with the lowest observed critical micelle concentration at 0.046 mmol L, significantly reducing surface tension to as low as 25.

The photocatalytic efficiency of materials such as graphene and noble metal nanoclusters depends on their plasmon lifetimes. Plasmon dephasing and decay in these materials is thought to occur on ultrafast time scales, ranging from a few femtoseconds to hundreds of femtoseconds and longer. Here we focus on understanding the dephasing and decay pathways of excited states in small lithium and silver clusters and in plasmonic states of the π-conjugated molecule anthracene, providing insights that are crucial for interpreting optical properties and photophysics.

Background: Advancements in cardiac catheterization have improved survival for pediatric congenital heart disease patients, but the associated ionizing radiation risks necessitate ethical consideration.
Methods: This study presents an empirical model, developed from 3131 unique pediatric procedures, to establish alert levels based on a patient's lateral thickness of the thorax for various procedural categories during diagnostic or interventional cardiac catheterization. The model uses linear regression of logarithmic reference air kinetic energy released per unit mass (KERMA) and air KERMA area product, also referred to as dose area product, to set alert levels at the top 95% and 99% of patient data.

Objectives: Prosociality, defined as positive other-regarding intentions and behaviors, is a modifiable factor demonstrated to be associated with better mental, physical, and cognitive health in older adults. Prior studies have largely focused on individual prosocial behaviors, especially volunteering. This study examines whether prosocial intentions are associated with maintaining cognitive health over time.
