Maculopathies affect point-to-point foveal correspondence causing diplopia. The effect that the maculopathies have on the interaction of central sensory fusion and peripheral fusion are different than the usual understanding of treatment for diplopia. This paper reviews the pathophysiology of macular diplopia, describes the binocular pathology causing the diplopia, discusses the clinical evaluation, and reviews the present treatments including some newer treatment techniques.

Purpose: To describe the efficacy and safety outcomes of NPB macular buckle (MB) in myopic traction maculopathy (MTM).

Methods: A monocentric, prospective cohort study of the naïve eyes who underwent MB surgery, alone or combined with vitrectomy (PPV) for MTM, using the new NPB buckle, between December 2022 and June 2024. The anatomical results, postoperative complications, and MB ease of use were analyzed as the main outcomes.

Familial exudative retinopathy (FEVR) is a hereditary disease involving abnormal retinal vascular development in which macular heterotopia (MH) caused by mechanical-like pulling of the vitreous may lead to pseudo-strabismus. We describe the case of a 12-year-old male patient from China who presented to our hospital with a request for surgical correction of exotropia. Examination revealed that the strabismic appearance was due to MH, and dilated pupil examination of the peripheral fundus revealed that the blood vessels of the left eye and the macula were displaced toward the temporal retina by pulling, and further FFA examination was performed to diagnose FEVR.

A Case of Incidental and Uncomplicated Subretinal Triamcinolone Acetonide.

Case Rep Ophthalmol

June 2024

Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • Posterior subtenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide is a treatment for persistent macular edema but can lead to complications like hemorrhage, retinal detachment, and infections.
  • A case was presented of a patient with retinal detachment who received the injection, which unexpectedly resulted in the drug being deposited in the subretinal space, yet the patient did not experience any vision-threatening issues.
  • This case emphasizes the need for caution in patients with a history of scleral buckling, as there is a risk for globe penetration and potential retinal complications during the injection.

Article Synopsis
  • Tolosa-Hunt syndrome (THS) is characterized by severe, unilateral eye pain and restricted movements due to inflammation in the cavernous sinus, and it can be linked to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), though it's primarily idiopathic.
  • A case report discusses a 54-year-old woman who experienced classical THS symptoms, along with signs of SLE, such as alopecia areata and skin lesions, and highlights the importance of thorough diagnostic tests like MRI and serological analyses to identify underlying autoimmune conditions.
  • Treatment with corticosteroids provided rapid relief from symptoms, and the patient showed no relapses during follow-up, suggesting THS could be an early indicator of SLE.

Objective: To study the clinical characteristics of macular diplopia, treatment, and outcome.

Methods: Retrospective descriptive study of cases referred to the ocular motility section of a tertiary hospital with diplopia, diagnosed with macular diplopia between 2022-23. The etiology of the macular pathology and the type of associated strabismus were recorded.
