Hepatic venous blood flow can be easily obtained using bedside ultrasound with either transthoracic or transesophageal echocardiography. Six critically ill patients with shock associated with absent or significantly reduced hepatic venous blood flow in the presence of normal or increased pulmonary venous flow are presented. In all these patients, the etiology of shock was secondary to increased resistance to venous return from either an intraabdominal process or through extrinsic or intrinsic occlusion of the proximal inferior vena cava or right atrium. These shock situations are secondary to increased resistance to venous return. Their treatment is highly specific and typically involves a surgical intervention.

Introduction: Pure laparoscopy for living donor hepatectomy is gaining popularity due to its advantages. However, despite the long-standing application of laparoscopic donor left lateral sectionectomy, the dissection of the Glisson branch, portal vein, and biliary ducts, particularly those of the caudate lobe, remains insufficiently described. Although the Glissonean approach offers easy standardization for hilar dissection, clear landmarks for parenchymal transection, and reduces postoperative bile leakage, it has not been widely adopted in laparoscopic donor hepatectomy.

Background: Wedged hepatic venous pressure (WHVP) is a crucial variable for accurately assessing the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) and is vital for the diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of patients with portal hypertension (PH).
Aim: To investigate the anatomical characteristics of balloon-occluded hepatic venous angiography in patients with PH and analyze the relationship between the WHVP and portal venous pressure (PVP).
Methods: This retrospective study included 877 patients with PH who met the inclusion criteria from January 2020 to June 2024.

Background: Gastric adenocarcinoma with enteroblastic differentiation (GAED) is one of the common subtypes of alpha-foetoprotein (AFP)-producing gastric cancer. GAED frequently results in venous invasion and liver metastasis, the latter being particularly linked to a poor prognosis. So far, the evidence for liver metastases from AFP-producing gastric cancer is only focused on those from gastric hepatoid adenocarcinoma, owing to their imaging similarities with hepatocellular carcinoma.

For individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), intravenous edaravone is approved as a disease-modifying medication; yet, there have been many reports of adverse events (AEs). We examined the AEs associated with edaravone in this study using actual data from the FDA's (Food and Drug Administration) adverse event reporting system (FAERS). By extracting large-scale data from the FAERS database, this study used the signals of edaravone-associated AEs were quantified using the multiitem gamma Poisson shrinker (MGPS) method based on disproportionality, the Bayesian confidence propagation neural network (BCPNN), the reporting odds ratio (ROR), and the proportional reporting ratio (PRR).

Background: Invasive right heart catheterization plays a central role in identifying pulmonary hypertension (pH) disorders. However, non-invasive biomarkers of portopulmonary hypertension (PoPH) are required. Liver stiffness evaluated by FibroScan® is useful for the assessment of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic liver diseases.
