Whey Protein-Based Hydrogel Microspheres for Endovascular Embolization.

ACS Appl Bio Mater

January 2025

Department of Radiology, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55455, United States.

Transarterial embolization (TAE) is an image-guided, minimally invasive procedure for treating various clinical conditions by delivering embolic agents to occlude diseased arteries. Conventional embolic agents focus on vessel occlusion but can cause unintended long-term inflammation and ischemia in healthy tissues. Next-generation embolic agents must exhibit biocompatibility, biodegradability, and effective drug delivery, yet some degradable microspheres degrade too quickly, leading to the potential migration of fragments into distal blood vessels causing off-target embolization.

Mechanisms of microplastic generation from polymer-coated controlled-release fertilizers (PC-CRFs).

J Hazard Mater

January 2025

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, USA; Missouri Water Center, University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. Electronic address:

Polymer-coated controlled-release fertilizers (PC-CRFs) are valued for nutrient efficiency, but concerns remain about the long-term impacts of their plastic coatings on soil health. This study investigates the physicochemical characteristics of two commercially available PC-CRFs, type A and B, and their changes during nutrient release. Accelerated nutrient release experiments were conducted for 25 d in ultrapure water (free water) and saturated soil with five wet-dry cycles.

Introduction: In adult patients, most ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) occurs secondarily. Concurrent UPJO with nephrolithiasis is not rare and simultaneous treatment by performing laparoscopic pyeloplasty and endoscopic stone removal has been suggested. In the case of atypical anatomy or previously failed pyeloplasty, a laparoscopic ureterocalicostomy is preferred.

On the Role of Hydrogen Migrations in the Taxadiene System.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

University of Bonn: Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitat Bonn, Kekulé Institute for Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Gerhard-Domagk-Straße 1, 53121, Bonn, GERMANY.

Taxa-4,11-diene is made by the taxa-4,11-diene synthase (TxS) from Taxus brevifolia. The unique reactivity of the taxane system is characterised by long distance hydrogen migrations in the biosynthesis. This study demonstrates that selective long range hydrogen migrations also play a role in the high energy process of the EI-MS fragmentation of taxa-4,11-diene.

The transcriptional regulatory factors binding to the polymorphic site C-1888T in the promoter region of the palate, lung, and nasal epithelium clone (PLUNC) gene were identified to investigate whether the C-1888T polymorphic site affects the transcriptional regulation and function of PLUNC gene. Three genotypes of C-1888T polymorphic locus were screened from established nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cells, and the mRNA expression levels of PLUNC gene in different genotypes were detected. The respective transcription factors that were more likely to bind with A or G in SNP were predicted by biological information and preliminarily verified in vitro by gel electrophoresis migration rate analysis.
