For most fluorescent oxygen sensors developed today, their fabrication process is either time-consuming or needs specialized knowledge. In this work, a robust fluorescent oxygen sensor is facilely constructed by dissolving pyrene molecules into CTAB aqueous solution. The as-prepared pyrene@micelle sensors have submicron-sized diameter, and the concentration of utilized pyrene can be reduced as low as 0.8 mM but still can exhibit dominant excimer emission. The excimer fluorescence is sensitive to dissolved oxygen in both intensity and lifetime, and the respective Stern-Volmer plot follows a nonlinear behavior justified by a two-site model. Because of the merits of large Stokes shift (~140 nm), easy fabrication, and robustness, the pyrene@micelle sensors are very attractive for practical determination of oxygen.

Image-guided photodynamic therapy is acknowledged as one of the most demonstrative therapeutic modalities for cancer treatment because of its high precision, non-invasiveness, and improved imaging ability. A series of purely organic photosensitizers denoted as BTMCz, BTMPTZ, and BTMPXZ, have been designed and synthesized and are found to exhibit both thermally activated delayed fluorescence and aggregation-induced emission simultaneously. Experimental and theoretical studies are combined to reveal that modulation of the donor of the photosensitizer enables distinct thermally activated delayed fluorescence via a second-order spin-orbit perturbation mechanism involving lowest singlet charge-transfer and higher-lying triplet locally excited states, respectively.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the role and mechanism of bone marrow microenvironmental cells in regulating the mitochondrial mass of leukemia cells, and to uncover the mechanism of leukemia progression at the metabolic level. A mouse model of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) induced by the overexpression of the MLL-AF9 (MA9) fusion protein was established, and the bone marrow cells of AML mice were transplanted into mitochondrial fluorescence reporter mice expressing the Dendra2 protein (mito-Dendra2 mice). The proportion of Dendra2 cells in bone marrow leukemia cells at different stages of AML was quantified by flow cytometry.

Expanded heterohelicene composing of alternating linearly and angularly fused multi-resonance (MR) skeleton has garnered wide interest for their promising narrowband emission. Herein, a pair of sym- and asym-expanded heterohelicene isomers are firstly developed by merging boron/oxygen (B/O)-embedded MR triangulene and indolo[3,2,1-jk]carbazole units via one-shot synthesis. Owing to the fully resonating extended helical skeleton, the target heterohelicenes exhibit significantly narrowed spectra bandwidth while emission red-shifting, thus affording deep-blue narrowband emission with peak at around 460 nm, full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) of merely 18 nm and near-unity photoluminescence quantum yields.

The reaction of terrylene in p-terphenyl with molecular oxygen is reinvestigated by TIRF-microscopy with λexc = 488 nm or λexc = 561 nm and 488 nm. A similar range of fluorescent products is obtained under both experimental conditions with a reaction quantum yield Φr > 10-7 for those molecules which undergo the photoreaction. The majority of these oxygen-susceptible molecules reacts via an electronically relaxed, dark intermediate, presumably an endoperoxide, with a lifetime of

Theranostic applications in atherosclerosis plaque microenvironment-triggered nanoplatforms are significantly compromised by the complex synthesis procedure, non-specific distribution, and limited therapeutic function. Therefore, development of a facile and feasible method to construct a pathology-based stimuli-responsive nanoplatform with satisfactory theranostic performance remains a demanding and highly anticipated goal. Herein, a novel class of multifunctional supra-carbon dots (CDs), denoted as MM@Ce-CDs NPs, by a simple nanoassembly and a subsequent coating with macrophage membrane (MM), is developed for the targeted reactive oxygen species-trigged theranostic and positive regulation of the pathological plaque microenvironment in AS.
