Enhancement of the production of terpenoid and flavonoid secondary metabolites in the ground and aerial parts of licorice composite plant in a hydroponic system.

J Biotechnol

January 2025

Biotechnology Research Department, Research Institute of Forests and Rangelands, Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), National Botanical Garden, Tehran Karaj Freeway, P.O. Box 13185-116, Tehran, Iran.

Hairy roots mediated by Agrobacterium rhizogenes can be obtained from the composite plants (plants with hairy roots and untransformed aerial parts) by ex vitro method. Composite plants can produce higher amounts of secondary metabolites by merging hydroponic systems. This provides a stable condition for composite plants, in which various metabolites are produced in different parts.

Spider Fungi: New species of and in the aerial rhizomorph web-maker guild in Amazonia.

Fungal Syst Evol

December 2024

Programa de Pós-graduação em Botânica - DIPO 2, Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia - Inpa, Av. André Araújo 2936, 69067-375, Manaus, AM, Brazil.

Rhizomorphs are hair- or wire-like melanized structures with structural differentiation analogous to plant roots that help fungi spread over an area and find food resources. Some species of multiple groups of the and the produce different types of rhizomorphs. In the , the structures are largely found in , particularly in the , , and .

Theoretical insights into spacer molecule design to tune stability, dielectric, and exciton properties in 2D perovskites.

Nanoscale

January 2025

Joint Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, University of Macau, Macau SAR 999078, China.

Two-dimensional organic-inorganic perovskites have garnered extensive interest owing to their unique structure and optoelectronic performance. However, their loose structures complicate the elucidation of mechanisms and tend to cause uncertainty and variations in experimental and calculated results. This can generally be rooted in dynamically swinging spacer molecules through two mechanisms: one is the intrinsic geometric steric effect, and the other is related to the electronic effect orbital overlapping and electronic screening.

Two different strategies for the distribution of macro- and trace elements can be observed in the terrestrial orchid Gymnadenia conopsea. Most trace elements are not translocated to the above-ground parts, whereas for macro-elements the trend was reversed, with the highest accumulation in the distal parts of the plants. Edaphic stress is one of the main factors affecting plant fitness, but it is still poorly understood, even in rare plants such as orchids.
